There have been a couple reports of the Spurs scouting him. Seems to fit the profile of the type of player the Spurs could go after.

If the Spurs aren't high on CJ now that they have a closer look at him, they could be in the market for another backup point guard. With TJ probably not sticking around too much longer, getting a playmaker like Machado could lighten the load on the Big 3 going forward.

That said, he's probably a long-shot for the first round unless he really explodes in the tournament . . .

Looks like he has slipped safely into the second round. If the Spurs want a playmaker behind Parker, he's probably one of the few second round prospects who has a chance to step in and contribute right away.

That said, I'm not sure if he's an improvement over Neal defensively . . .

I know he plays for a school, but that is some insane efficiency. Seems like he would be a solid pick.

Draft: Seven Players Who’d Be Perfect Fits for Seven Teams
    By Tommy Dee
    June 25, 2012 at 5:38 PM

    ....

Scott Machado (Iona)/ San Antonio Spurs: Can you imaging a better backup point guard for Tony Parker than a player with incredibly similar skill sets? Machado led the nation in assists thanks to a spread, face-paced offense much like the system that the Spurs run. I don’t think Machado falls to 59, although as they did last year with Leonard, the Spurs are never afraid to be aggressive if they can get their man.

Machado seems to be slipping a bit. At 59, he'd be a very good pick. Doubtful he drops all the way there, though. At ~40, he's still a good gamble.

Green and Machado were high school teammates for a year, IIRC.

All teams needing depth at PG.

San Antonio could also go after him, but with Mills offered an FO, De Colo projected to come over, and Denmon projected to be another ball-handler, another PG is the least need.

Pop and RC are probably focusing on De Colo/Lorbek.

Rockets to sign former NCAA assist leader Machado

According to Jonathan Feigen from Houston Chronicle, Houston Rockets are close to signing NCAA assists leader Scott Machado. 22 years old point guard averaged 9.9 points with Iona Gaels last year. Feigen reported that Machado will sign a three year partially guaranteed deal, most likely on Thursday. Undrafted Machado was able to attract attention in the Las Vegas Summer League with some solid performances.
