4 spurs in top 10 PER at their positions

as things stand right now - march 8th - international women's day - happy women's day to all of our spurstalk ladies out there:

1. tony parker - 5th PG
2. manu ginobili - 2nd SG
3. kawhi leonard - 10th SF
4. tim duncan - 7th C

kawhi is placed 11th on the espn PER for SF because they treat novak as a SF. however, 82games.com (http://www.82games.com/1112/11NYK11.HTM) shows he plays the PF position more than SF; plus, he is too slow to be considered a small forward in my book.

Kawhi strikes me as the kind of player who will be a beast of efficiency once he comes into his own. He is still not an NBA caliber offensive player scoring the ball (rebounding and making cuts are his obvious strengths on that end), so to see him still rank top ten as a rookie is pretty awesome. And I agree, no way Novak is a SF. Imagine him guarding Rudy Gay for instance

Danny Green is the kind of guy who can fill up the stat sheet as well. If he could ever find some sort of consistency, especially shooting the ball, I could envision him posting a pretty good PER. Too many odd games going 0-8 or 2-9 this season though. As it stands right now he is shooting 40%, and his role still fluctuates on a game to game basis.

PER is an erratic and flawed statistic IMO..advanced statisticians have devalued PER by analyzing it's flaws and exposing the deficiencies..

However, it isn't completely inaccurate(an advanced box score stat will usually be in the ball park)..

Wins Produced is a more accurate stat, and it demonstrates that Leonard has produced at a beastly rate, only trailing Rubio and Irving, amongst rookies..Leonard is producing at a significantly higher rate than the average SF..

Why shouldn't he start ahead of that useless sack Jefferson then?

I really, really like this kid. As I said in my post earlier in this thread I think as he progresses and his shot/comfort on the offensive end comes along, we are gonna have a really special player. Having Manu back should reeeeeally help him this year too, because like I said he is already great at cutting to the basket, and, obviously, has great hands.

His advanced stats are impressive, due to his rebounding rates, steal rates, and ability to protect the ball..

Jefferson's ability to make the 3 has probably played a large part at keeping him in Pop's good graces, tbh..

exactly. I do expect his minutes to shrink in the playoffs, and Kawhi's to increase thanks to his D, but he'll probably be starting throughout.

Manu makes alot of guys better. But I agree, probably would really help Khawi & Tiago especially.

That said, I'm starting to wonder if it makes the most sense to put em all in the starting lineup... Manu, Tiago & Kawhi. Best of the best.

Neal, Green, Jefferson, Blair, Bonner outta be good enough to at least hold the fort for limited minutes against the other teams' bench.

Honestly, that lineup would be amongst the absolute best in the NBA, if not the best tbh.

The flip side is, of course, how badly it waters down our bench. As of now I like Manu returning to the super sub role. When he is out there with the second unit he elevates all those guys as we have mentioned. Come crunch time, though, that line up could be really, really scary.

It's gonna be tough, and its gonna depend on the matchup, as Pop has shown with the starting 2 guard spot. That said, if Green doesn't get more consistent offensively I could see him getting pushed down the bench. Our bigs are thin, obviously, but I could still see the same thing happening to Blair as last year. And I pray RJs minutes go to Kawhi.

To me this is the goto defensive unit to shut down the other team. Pop can go back into believing in defense.

Yea, last year's playoffs. I'm sure Pop won't be afraid to give RJ the quick hook in the playoffs again this year too, if RJ isn't producing.
