There was a bit of predictable, snarky chuckling about this piece on the ESPN.com’s TrueHoop blog Wednesday that imagined an NBA in 2022 in which teams could track, in real-time, all sorts of things about a player’s physical state — various chemical levels, changes in vertical leap, decreases in running speed, etc.
We’re a ways off from the reality described in that piece, but the league is headed in that direction, and one the driving forces is a state-of-the-art in-arena camera system developed by STATS LLC. A half-dozen teams purchased and installed the system last season, and 10 are using it this season; the league over the All-Star break made noises about adopting it someday for all 30 teams. (The 10 teams, by the way: Houston, San Antonio, Boston, Minnesota, Milwaukee, New York, Washington, Toronto, Oklahoma City and Golden State.)

Well in all fairness to timvp, at the time it was written, Parker had yet to gear into his mid-season form...
Fortunately for Spurs fans everywhere... Tony has bucked a historical NBA age-decline trend that was eerily similiar for speedy guards (Isaiah Thomas, Kevin Johnson, etc...)... Tony is still a machine, for now...

Somewhat related story: The Spurs have a drill they put potential draft picks through in which they are to take a pass at the opposite free throw line and dribble the length of the court for a layup. At the time, Parker shattered the previous record and that's when RC and Presti officially decided that's who the Spurs should draft. It took them a while to convince Pop but Parker's blinding speed began that process. Oh, and Parker's record still stands.
So yeah, Parker being the fastest of the fast isn't too surprising. Although this many years later, it's nice to know nothing is ailing him

@ Splitter being second. The Spurs shoot great on threes that Danny Green creates; not sure if there is anything too that other than luck, though. Blair's passing is usually underrated so it's pretty cool for it to get recognized here.

Probably has a lot to do with where Parker gets Blair the ball (i.e.- at the rim). He probably hesitates passing the ball to Blair if he's 12 feet from the basket, a hesitation that isn't there with Duncan, and perhaps not even there with Splitter (though Splitter usually rolls more efficiently than to 12 feet).
It's good to know that Parker hasn't lost a step. But at the beginning of this season, he had definitely misplaced a step. It's not hard to understand why that was written.
Parker didn't "find" that step until after Timvp started that thread. Now maybe he should start a thread on what's ailing Richard "Goose Egg" Jefferson, to see if it will light a fire under his ass.
I think it was Parker's fourth year in the league when I got to watch him practice up close on the floor.
It was absolutely shocking how fast he was. I had really never seen anything like it. People would argue Iverson but after that event there was no one even close. I had no idea human being with a ball could move that fast.
One nano second of hesitation and he is past you and shielding the ball.
God if he could hit a three comfortably...

I wonder if TP's new girlfriend and the divorce affected his play. He's gotta be in a much better state of mind now that all of that is over, allowing him to focus on basketball.

It's good to see Tiago at the top in pass conversion % and FG %. He is definitely turning out to be a great asset this year and quelling the fears from last year that he may be a bust.
In addition, its good to see Tony tearing it up lately as well. I was wondering for a while where that fierce scoring ability and speed went. Although, there was a time (2005-2009) when I felt Tony could make anything inside the paint against the bigs. He'd be able to take it in, throw it up and the ball almost always seem to go in. The last few seasons, he's been missing those more often.
This should increase his trade value.
I just hope he doesn't get too gassed before the playoffs.
Mike Conley made him look mediocre last post season TBH.
The Spurs didn't lose the series in the frontcourt, they did on the PG position without tony getting his 20 and 7 regularly.

I've noticed that Green doesn't always shoot when he has room, but passes it to get an even better look. Sean talks about it a lot during the game about the ball movement and the extra pass, and I think that has a lot to do with that shooting percentage. There was no fear Tiago was a bust. It was just Pop refusing to play him. A high bbiq player he was bound to figure it out given time.
The Grizzlies played great team defense on Parker. It wasn't just Conley. On the other hand the Spurs really didn't play that great perimeter defense because they were helping inside so much.
Tony is definitely one of the fastest with the ball. He has actually gotten faster while dribbling than he was when he came into the league. I believe he learned this from watching other great guards. I.E. how to run full speed with the ball like J Kidd (not any more but Jason was the best earlier in his career) and how to protect the ball like Marbury, how to cycle like Steve Nash, how to finish like Iverson, etc. plus lots of practice. Tony was not a good finisher his first year. Now he's one of the best, ever, and at full speed, no less.
With that said...David Robinson was the fastest big man I've ever seen (including Kevin Willis). Not off the dribble but raw speed. He frequently won the wind sprints in practice. I've seen him run down some very quick players, including Isaiah Thomas or block a shot on the baseline and then beat everyone down the floor for a dunk.
Yeah, the Spurs clearly lost in the 1st round because Parker averaged 19.7 and 5.2 instead of 20 and 7.

After watching Wall go head-to-head and feet-to-feet vs. Tony, it is visibly obvious TP is the faster and quicker player.
Last year he had a very good season until the playoffs.
The fact that he is playing out of his mind has certainly more to do with Manu's injuries (see 2009).
