Tony Parker headed to UCLA Bruins

Tony Parker, the seventh-rated center and 26th-ranked player in the ESPN 100, is the latest prep star to commit to play at UCLA.

Parker, 6-9, 270 pounds from Lithonia (Ga.) Miller Grove, announced that he's headed to UCLA during a special ceremony at his high school Monday.

He is the No. 1 player in Georgia and chose the Bruins over Georgia, Duke, Kansas and Ohio State.

The addition of Parker to a class that already include Shabazz Muhammad (No. 2), Kyle Anderson (No. 5) and Jordan Adams (No. 41) vaults UCLA past Arizona and Kentucky for he the No. 1 recruiting class in the nation.

Parker averaged 16 points and 11 rebounds last season and has led his Miller Grove high school team to four consecutive Georgia state les, was the Atlanta Journal Cons ution's Mr. Basketball and was a McDonald's All-American.

UCLA assistant coach Korey McCray, hired last summer by head coach Ben Howland to help recruit out of state, was Parker's AAU coach with the Atlanta Celtics before taking the UCLA job. McCray played a vital role in recruiting Parker and Adams, another former Atlanta Celtics player. Parker is also close with Muhammad and Anderson, who said they had been working hard on getting Parker to UCLA.

Buffets = ed when Smith and Parker stroll in...

This thing has been rumored all-but over for a few months now.

I suppose one fattie will finally work out. You can throw Aboya into the mix as well.

As for Arizona, when they get Mark Lyons via senior transfer, paired with seniors in Parrom and Hill and three top-10 frontcourt prospects, I'm quite certain they'll hold their own vs. UCLA. Should be some good battles. If they fail to land Lyons, then it's a bit more serious. Good news for Arizona is that both Shabazz and Anderson are one-n-dones and Howland has yet to do anything of note with All-American fat centers, so after this year, when Arizona still has at least 2/3 of their top-10 frontcourt players (if not all three as all three have talked about playing several years at UA), all will be right with the conference yet again.

I think it's a given that both UCLA and UA will be loaded with talent at positions 3-5. The difference will likely be which team gets better production from its back court since both teams right now have dog at both PG and SG. If Lyons transfers to AZ and is every bit as good here as he was at Xavier that would prolly be the difference maker.

Tbh Arizona's anorexic bigs vs. UCLA's obese bigs is gonna be an exciting matchup tho.

Easier to gain strength at 6-10, 215 than it is to shed weight at 6-9, 265. Remember, Parker eliminated Ohio State because they told him he needed to drop 20-25 pounds before he'd play extended minutes. Parker isn't Sean May or Glenn Davis.

But, yes, really, this year's Bruin/Wildcat matchup depends on Lyons to UA. Without, I think UCLA is 8-10 points better. With Lyons, it's damn near even.

You should have. Even in it's down years from 2008 until now, it still had more draft picks than any other Conference.

    Pac-10/12..........29
    Big-12...............27
    Big East.............27
    SEC..................25
    ACC..................23
    Big-10...............11

That was part of the problem. Too much turnover.

There is where I'm not sure Shabazz helps. He's a talent, for sure, but he's also certain a one-n-done, which keeps that door revolving. Brandon Ashley of Arizona, Kyle Anderson of UCLA are similar. That said, it wouldn't surprise me if both the latter two stay a second season.

I wouldn't say that since I'll never be able to figure out how players stay overweight when they're getting intense physical activity 3-4 hours a day but I know what you mean. It's much easier to play a major role as someone who's 6'10" 215 and in good physical shape than it is as someone who's 6'9" 265 and gets winded after a few minutes.

The matchup involves so many unknown variables it's really impossible to tell as much as we'd want to. If all of their freshman are as good as advertised while all of our freshman are useless, UCLA dominates, while UA dominates if vica versa happens. Right now I give UA the edge given Howland's issues and the fact UA has more experience returning.

UCLA has UNC transfer PG Larry Drew coming in as well...

    PG: Drew
    SG: Shabazz... Tyler Lamb
    SF: Anderson... Jordan Adams
    PF: Wear Twins, Stover
    C: Smith, Parker

That roster is entirely five-star and high four-star prospects.

Arizona's is damn good, but not sure it has that level of depth or impact scoring without Lyons.

Most have. He hasn't played since fall 2010. Still, it's his lone year remaining and I think he's a great get at PG for a team that has such versatile PFs and scoring from Shabazz.

That said, I do anticipate Anderson's greatness and Shabazz's greatness infringing upon each other. Both prefer to have the ball in their hands to be most dominant. That said, they are both way too talented and versatile to not have it work.
