And it's a huge IF.
But if they do, what do you think the chances are that Tim retires? And Pop follows him out the door?
Also, how would you feel if they did?
If if they somehow manage to win the championship, I think Tim at least entertains the idea of going out like D-Rob did.
And Pop always said that as soon as Tim is gone, he's gone too...
I'd give it a 25% chance Tim would retire after a championship, tbh.
I'd say the 25% chance is a good prediction. However with so few players from this team not locked up for next year, I think TD would want a chance for the elusive back-to-back and shot at matching MJ for 6. Regardless, when Duncan goes, so goes Pop.
I would be OK to see Tim retire like D-Rob did. I would be happy for him his goal is done. As for Pop following, I think he implied in one interview that that was just a joke.
I think the chance of Tim retiring after winning the championship is much lower than if Spurs lose early. Either way, I don't see Tim retiring unless he personally got beat badly by the opposite bigs.
He's owed like 10 million, why would he retire?
They'll call it astrisk!
...again.
Duncan's contract is up after this year. He's made over $200 million in his career and isn't owed anything, contractually, once the season ends. It is not out of the question he rides out into the sunset with 5.
How is he owed 10m?
"... till the wheels fall off"
Certainly doesn't look like it's gonna happen by June
You mean matching Kareem at 6. I would think Duncan should be compared to Kareem more so than Jordan.
And, interestingly, Kareem's last 2 championships were his first repeat (87 and 88).
Tim has said multiple times over his career that he enjoys the journey of the season almost as much as winning the le. He is still a very very productive player and there is no way he retires even if we win. He has said himself that he wouldn't know what to do anyways so 0%

they'll try to finally achieve the repeat next year. They'd be in good position to repeat if they could resign diaw, green, trade blair, and bring in lorbek.
I think Tim would want to go for his 6th and potentially 7th.
"...till the wheels fall off" indeedy!![]()
If Tim is still feeling as good as he is now, I think he's a greedy SOB when it comes to wins and championships.
want to keep going.
Hopefully 0%. DRob retiring at 37 made sense with the horrible shape his back was in, but I'd love to see another couple of years out of Tim.
0% if he's healthy. No one leaves a potential $20+ million contract on the table ( Spreewell references aside ).
"Till the wheels fall off" Timmy has said. So ya, 0% chance.
It all depends on how Tim feels. Pretty sure he would play another year or two, if his body holds up.
He does not need a statement like a championship to retire. He can retire after a losing season and it would not harm his resume one iota. Looking at his body right now, I think he can play at least 3 more years. He and Pop can go for their 1000th win together, a record that will never be touched, especially in today's environment where coaches are fired so often and players rarely stay on one team.
"...till the wheels fall off."
Man I love this team!
Ooooh a 3peat?![]()
if we win it all. not only are we the best team coming into next season, I believe we have a ton of cash to sign up another star or at least keep our rotation players.
Agreed, 0%
If you can command +/- $12 million and have another shot at a le, you'd be stupid not to come back.
Tim's bbiq is just to high to turn that down, imo.
