There was a thread on the 50 wins per season streak which showed that this would be the 13th season the Spurs are winning 50 games which would be a record.

But the 1999 season was lockout shortened and the Spurs won 37 games out of 50. The best way to evaluate season wins and streaks is to look at win % and then calculate the streaks. If we take 50 wins as criteria for a 82 game season, then the winning percentage is 60.9%. ( I know that the 50 games criteria is artificial but still).

Here is the best streaks for teams with 60.9% and above since professional basketball began in the NBA -

    San Antonio Spurs - 15 years - (1997-2012)
    Los Angeles Lakers - 12 years - (1979-1991)
    Boston Celtics - 12 years - (1956-1968)
Dallas Mavericks - 11 years - (2000-2011) (their streak was broken this year)
    Utah Jazz - 8 years - (1993-2001)

To put things in context, only 15 teams out of all franchises have finished above the 50/82 games mark metric in atleast one season. And the above are the top 5 in the highest number of such streaks.

Just Regular Season numbers. But still, awesome, ain't it?

Yeah, I think winning % is more meaningful than # of wins. But regardless the spurs broke records in both this year!
