I'd take Bonner over that any day.
via twitter:
"@MagicInsider: BREAKING: Ryan Anderson to be named Most Improved Player"
so, my wish of Danny Green getting it didn't come true, but tbh, I am happy it's not Jeremy Lin...
What do you guys think about this?
I'd take Bonner over that any day.
this
I didn't see improvement, Ryan Anderson has always been that type of player.
i'm also looking at stats and considering Danny is a shooting guard that is not our go-to player like Ryan is forced to be and Danny doesn't have the luxery of getting higher percentage shots in the paint like Ryan, i'd say Danny's stats are more impressive
Danny's STATS
Ryan's STATS

Although I love Green not winning it so that he would cost less to resign, imo.
There's no MIP this year, so instead of being accused of voting for a story, and since they could obviously not vote for a Spurs player (there are rules against that, you know), they picked a random who didn't deserve it.
In MIP there's IMPROVED, so I don't care how well a player has been lpaying this year, he should play way above both last year and career average. In a way Parker is more improved than both Anderson and Green combined.
To me the true MIP (but who couldn't get MIP and 6th man award in the same year) is James Harden.
Harden has gained 4.6 points (more than Anderson), 1 rebound, 1.6 assists and has increased his FG% from .436 (very very average) to .491 (elite) and his 3P% from .349 (nice) to .390 (killer), while playing fewer than 5 minutes more per game.
Harden is the real reason why OKC did so well this year.
i'm with you there bud
Meh. I doubt GM's give much of a about awards like MIP when deciding how big a contract to offer someone.
Giving them recognition puts them in the market.
This right here.
GM's don't rely on awards handed out by the media to recognize players.
Not really. Media has so much influence these days.
Exactly.
lol @ the Hedu example. Hedo got the award in 2008. He got his new contract in 2009 after being a critical piece on Orlando's run to the NBA Finals.
ask Diaw![]()
The big contract and the award both resulted from Hedo having played well. Him getting the award didn't cause the big contract. I'm sure agents do try to use awards as a cherry on top of their pitch for as big a contract as possible, but I can't see any GM worth a damn buying in to that. It's what happens on the court that matters, not winning some media popularity contest.
All that being said, I'd love to be wrong about this and have every GM in need of a SG/SF to think "How can Green be that good if he didn't win MIP."
Anderson was widely considered the frontrunner for most of the season and that's basically how he took it, as his season averages evened out by the end of the year. His points per 36 minutes only increased by .9, his rebounds per 36 by only .4 and his field goal percentage by only .9 percentage points. That's right, a guy known for his improved shooting didn't even shoot one whole percentge point better.
It gets worse when we look at his percentage of team wide production. Anderson's rebound percentage actually dropped year over year, as did his TrueShooting Percentage.
So the stats, they are not kind to Anderson's "improvement."

I'm just saying, having recognition from the media gives more chance for a player to be costing higher. It's not all about the Gm's too, players have agents, and agents will take advantage of those awards.
Any GM who relies on the media to tell him who the good players are isn't going to be employed very long.
Quality takes.
That's dumb.
