Novak's Duplicity
In a move of stunning hypocrisy this weekend, journalist Bob Novak went on CNN to demand CBS News reveal the confidential sources which gave them President Bush's National Guard records. On the Capital Gang, Novak, who has strenuously claimed his right as a reporter not to reveal his sources to law enforcement officials in the leak of an undercover CIA agent, said, "I'd like CBS, at this point, to say where they got these do ents from." He then repeated himself: "I think they should say where they got these do ents." The Wall Street Journal's Al Hunt was perplexed, asking Novak, "You're saying CBS should reveal its source?" He replied, "Yes." Hunt asked again, "You think reporters ought to reveal sources?" Novak, then embarrassed said, "No, no. Wait a minute...I'm just saying in that case." Hunt summed up, "So in some cases, reporters ought to reveal sources?" Novak replied, "Yes."
Why do you think Robert Novak isn't getting a subpoena in the Valerie Plame case? Here we have a deep undercover CIA Operative whose job it is to track WMDs around the world to keep them out of the wrong hands and Novak outs her. Shouldn't he either give up his source or be put on trial for treason?

Novak's information was true.
Novak's information was a criminal act to reveal.
That's yet to be determined. In any case, it's true.
The CBS memos are fraudulent. I'm certain any agreement of confidentiality would be contingent on the the information, provided by the confidant, be accurate.
Either CBS is protecting the source because of other consequences OR they, themselves, produced the do ents. There's no other reason not to reveal the source now.
The CBS do ents were vetted. Which means that CBS has a big, nasty room of lawyers waiting to provide a courtroom full of specialists that say the do ents are authentic. Good luck trying to get someone to bite.. I hear Judicial Watch has nothing better to do than look into the background of Kerry's Silver Star. Maybe you could try them?
The point is that Novak is screaming for CBS to reveal it's sources yet he won't reveal his.Novak's information was true.
Because his sources didn't provide him with false information.
It doesn't matter. He still revealed the information and needs to put up or shut up.
I disagree.
With Rather, on the other hand, his sources provided him with false information...they deserve no such protection of confidentiality.
