    T Mac man....
Some medias could have considered HIM as the next MJ,
He was THE superstar, he's born is 79 Manu in 77,
today TMac is a scrub, while Manu is still a legend.

    Why ???

    Injuries.
If that would not happened, he would still be better than Kobe or LBJ.

I think he really let that "never got out of the first round" thing get into his head, there's definitely some mental softness there. For that reason I think saying he could have been Kobe is a stretch. The talent was there, the heart was not. He couldn't stay healthy either, some of that is just bad luck, some of it was inevitable. Unlike Ginobili, who had a team around him that could afford give him some nights off every now and then, T-Mac played with some horrible supporting casts in his prime. Hill was never healthy in Orlando, and then his last good years with the Rockets he was paired with few decent scoring options other than Yao, who took some time to adjust to the NBA and then never reached his own potential due to injuries. I think if you put Manu in that same situation he probably would have played himself out of the league as well with his style of play, going 100 mph every game for 35+ minutes trying to lift a crappy team.

There's cautionary parallels to the Big 3 throughout the league. Without Pop and the other two counterparts, Duncan could have gone the way of countless bigs whose knees gave out before their time. Parker could have gotten busted up and broken down by 30 like AI did.

I've said it a few times, but this year has probably shown it with alarming clarity thanks to the pace the lock out set, the overall health of a team is too often written off as a matter purely of good or bad luck when the playoffs roll around. It's certainly a part, sometimes even the biggest part. Ankles get rolled on routine rebounds, guys twist a knee driving to the hoop, happens. But it's also a good indicator of a the quality of an organization from top to bottom. There's a thread in the NBA forum with an interview that Greg Oden did. It's a good read, but there's also some links in there to stories detailing some pretty startling accusations as to how badly the Blazers organization mismanaged the recoveries of Oden and Roy. It also mentions how great the Suns medical staff has been with guys like Grant Hill, etc.

But that's only one part of it. Can your GM put together the depth to keep from overworking your stars? Can your coach manage the minutes and egos of compe ors who want to be on the floor? It's all a big ing balancing act.

Uhh, YEAH. Look at his career stats. Did you ever actually watch him and the Rockets play? McGrady was a special talent that injuries got the best of.

Exact same story as Penny Hardaway. Ironically both wore #1 for the Magic.

Back in '00 and '01, espn would have constant polls asking who was the next MJ, and would have a player tracker showing current stats for the contenders.

The contenders were Kobe, AI, Carter, T-Mac, Allen and Pierce

03 Tmac was one of the best players in NBA history tbh. If he could've stayed at that level his entire career, he'd definitely be better than Kobe

This. Back problems killed his career.

Yeah, that was one of the more frustrating things that kept me from being able to cheer for the guy. He could be a of a defender when he wanted to be. Not just the gambling on passing lanes BS that everyone seems to love Lebron for, but fundamental, hand in the face, moving feet, man in front of you defense. Just seemed like he didn't care to do it too often.

He never shot more than 43% from the field while beign with the Rockets. McGrady is in the same group with guys like Iverson, Melo, Stoudamire, Carter, etc. Supertalented guys that never really understood the game or how to make teammates better.

Combination of injuries and lack of dedication. If TMac had Kobe's dedication he would easily be better than him.
