Let me preface this by saying I don't intend for this to be an over-reaction thread to their Game 3 loss. It was one game and I believe even without any personnel adjustments, they could still take Game 4. However if Pop was going to shake things up in the line up which do you think would be the most possible, and the most effective.
1. Blair and Duncan: I give a tremendous amount of credit to Boris Diaw and everything he has brought to the Spurs since its trade. The 20+ wins the Spurs achieved since he was acquired demonstrate what he brings to the table. However in this series, particularly the past 2 games, it has been obvious that he is not looking to shoot. He has been hesitant to put up any type of shot that isn't a reverse lay-up and as a result has tried to force some passes.
One thing no one accused Blair of is being timid on offense. While you trade basketball IQ for will-power in the exchange, Blair has been effective against the Thunder this season and could give a fair amount of energy to the starting line-up.
Defensively, the hope would be that given the offensive limitations of OKC's bigs, he wouldn't be too much of a liability and should have the tonnage to keep Perkins off the offensive boards.
2. Starting Manu: If you believe Thabo's defense on Parker was the sole contributor to stifling the offensive rhythm of the Spurs, then pairing him with Manu would seem the best way to address it.
Manu starting forces Westbrook to either guard Parker or Manu. Parker has shown he can work with Westbrook defending him, and Manu would have a decided size advantage if they tried to utilize Westbrook on him.
The counter to all this is, what happens with James Harden? Green has struggled shooting, and his defense has lapsed somewhat as a result. Without Manu with the 2nd unit, your also subject to the ball-handling of Neal and/or Green at the point.
The rotations of Parker and Ginobili would have to be altered enough to allow for both of them to start but for one of them to be with the 2nd unit at least 75% of the time. (Unless you trusted Diaw to run the show, but again then he isn't starting).
3. Starting both Jackson and Leonard: At the beginning of the season Pop had Leonard starting as a 2. Granted it wasn't always pretty, but it showed himself to be at the very least serviceable at the position. Not that Thabo really demands an elite defender, but it would enable the Spurs to switch more readily on defense. Also both Leonard and Jackson have show the ability to hit 3s on a consistent basis in the series, than Green.
Caveat again, is who would guard Durant who has asked Brooks to play all 48 minutes, while he is with the second unit. Rotations would have to be adjusted again to allow for one of those two to be one Durant at all times.
4. Going Big: Bring in Splitter to start with Duncan and lets see if we can overpower their frontline. This has probably of -5% of happening, its that unlikely. Especially given the lack of success Duncan in particular has had in the post this series. But it is (technically) an advantage the Spurs should have over the Thunder.
5. Matt Bonner makes a shot: Least likely option available
Again I don't think any of these necessarily happen, moreover if the Spurs can figure out how not to turn the ball over, they probably wouldn't be needed. Still its interesting to think how Pop would address the situation if he believed line-up changes were necessary.
