$$$? Just live off the land. Pineapples are everywhere and the locals invite you into their huts like you are family. The Spam is plentiful and and the women welcome you with open legs.
I love Hawaii.
has anyone been? How much $ is comfortable to bring? What should I see there?
Thanks for the help all![]()

What island?
I am too....North Shore...rented a condo on the beach. I'm not taking a lot of cash but anticipate on spending at least 2-3 grand for 3 people not counting airfare and room.
Have you bought your airline tickets yet? It's damned expensive. Best deal I have found so far is almost $900 a head round trip.
I'm going to Maui in October. I'm going to bring quite a bit of cash because my understanding is that it's very expensive there.
i am going with my gf and staying a week. I am gonna take like $1500 so i hope i will be ok with that.
i think with everything (hotel and plane) it was like $1700 each. We booked it through a travel agent so that is y i think it was so exspensive.
I was there in 1981-83 and it was fantastic. Went to Maui for whale watching and some Maui bud. Just driving around the islands was awesome and the very bright rainbows. Take caution when entering the beaches as the under tow can be a killer. Yeah, I had to be rescued but it sure wasn't by any Bay Watch babe.
I loved Hawaii very expensive though. If you have a car rented drive out to waimianalo beach, best beach I found out there. It was very low key and not many people.
I took the LOST hummer tour, that was Alot of fun. Driving through all the valleys in a hummer you get to see Alot of different things, and different movie sites. Was probably best part of trip.
If you do a helicopter ride make sure you go with genesis. It's a private small company the pilot is also the owner former marine I believe, very nice guy. It's better than others cause he keeps the doors off the chopper and knows everything about the island since he's lived there his whole life.
Koalina is a spot that was cool too where you can go snorkeling, and swim with dolphins and turtles. Very nice people also, when they get back on shore the BBQ for u.
Pearl harbor was special, but you have to get there very early!
If your in to hiking try manoa falls, there is a nice reward when you get to the top.
Also make sure you get some macadamian but Hersey kisses exclusive to Hawaii, I has some shipped to me just a couple of weeks ago.
Yeah, I remember that..that stoner was really ripped in the rip tide...
Chalupa got mouth-to-mouth from The Hof!
Damn stoner tried to give me tongue!
Damnit!![]()
Check with LnGrrrR He is, or was stationed in Hawaii. Actually living there gives you a better insight. PM him or something. Invite him to this thread.
My favorite island is Kauai, but it's hard to go wrong on any of the islands. Have a wonderful time!
If you want to save money stay off the beaten paths & try to find hang outs where the locals go…Years ago I was in Maui & hit all the five star places...Then I found an awesome place in Kihie within walking distance of my Condo…(Great food & adult beverages at ½ the tourist price)…
I never found rough surf or rip currents in Maui but they can occur anywhere …If you are not an experienced ocean swimmer just stay clam and don’t waste your energy fighting the current if it takes you out…When the current weakens swim parallel to shore until you are out of it…. Swim toward the shore once you escape the current…We used to practice this for hours & to the dismay of the lifeguards who just wanted to read a book that day…
If your planning on doing the whole luau thing while your on Oahu, I reccomend Paradise Cove it might be more expensive, but the drinks and food are really good. Plus they have all kinds of activities for you to do, and the show is pretty badass.
Me and my wife went to Maui for our honeymoon beautiful. We took around 2000.00 dollars that was back in 2005. We went whale watching, scuba diving, the road to hana tour (brutal) and saw the sunrise on top of a dormant volcano. Well worth every penny.
I will give you a bottle of Crown Royal when you get back if you can do me a favor and smoke some of the weed they have in Hawaii.
Its the best weed natural weed there is other than the man made Hydro they have today , its very smooth.... and refreshing..... and I would hate to think your trip to Hawaii was wasted.

I agree, it's some great stuff. I doubt it's better than the stuff grown in Oregon.
Don't get me wrong man made pot like Bubble gum rules! as far as getting a buzz but back in 1980
at Ft Bragg a mailman who got transferred to our unit had some in his mailbag (that didn't get searched by DEA) I remembered I paid 125.00 for a just a dime bag and it was worth it. so sweet just like sipping on a Pina Colada.
Remember this was 1980
LOL...
That much?
The "Hawaiian" bud we got in Oregon topped out at $55/oz back then. It wasn't any better than the native bud at $30/oz.
Prices sure have skyrocketed. Last time I bought some good bud, it was $20 for an 1/8th. That was a little more than 5 years ago, but then you have to have the right connections too. I hear people talking about $20 a gram, and it's not even that good. If that's street value, then they are getting robbed. I believe Bud is Oregon's largest under the table crop, and some of that "Hawaiian" may be falsely labeled, coming from Oregon.
