Patty Mills could have helped.
Looking back on it, I think this was pretty significant. Left us in the WCF with no real backup PG while veteran Fisher carved up our second stringers.
Do you think having a real backup PG could have gotten us further? Lord knows where we woulda been without Speedy in 03.
Patty Mills could have helped.
I agree a natural point guard could have helped our role players from disappearing and keeping their confidence up.
Yeah people forget about him but he would have made a difference..
I think it may have helped especially with ball movement im the last 4 games. TJ is (was) more of a distributor than TP in the games he played for us.
He's Gary Neal minus four inches.
I think he would have, but one of the big problems the Spurs ran into were the lack on contributions from roleplayers. Unlike the Thunder who could ride Durant, Westbrook, and Harden for 35-48 minutes a night, Manu, Tony, and Duncan can't without a noticeable dropoff in their performance. When guys like Green go cold for a series, or Neal goes cold for a game, it screws you over. Doesn't help when it becomes an epidemic, so the only bench player producing is Jackson.
I think TJ does a better job of spelling TP, and hopefully a better job of not turning the ball over. But does he make Green or Neal hit their shots? Does he make Bonner actually appear in the playoffs? I think Splitter probably would have benefited, but some of those other guys were missing wide-open shots, and I'm not sure TJ fixes that.
Meh. Turnovers were a HUGE issue during the WCF, and TJ Ford wasn't exactly a god at ball security. In the little sprint he had with San Antonio, per 36 minutes he averaged 4.3 turnovers per game. that's about as much as TP and Neal combined! (per 36 minutes)
brasky rooting for LBJ like his mentor HH![]()
Ehh...he didn't know the system well enough to run point in a pressure-packed playoff situation, the only way I saw him getting on the court was for defensive purposes.
Way better defender. If he stays with us for next year he'll probably be in the rotation.
Unlike every mo in Austin, I hate UT/Durant and won't be bandwaggoning the Thunder. Plus I think he's due.
TJ Ford being here seems like an eternity ago.
lol armchair coach
I still don't get why you guys in here are so high on him? He played mostly games where the starters were out and chucked up a ton of shots. He is not a proven anywhere in this league.
BTW WHO IS LJ FORD? TJ?
True. It hurt us big time.
Coulda', Woulda', Shoulda' ...![]()
I dunno, I can't remember any particularly effective games for Patty, defensively speaking.
In his limited showings during his time on the spurs roster, he's certainly displayed a propensity to put up a ton of shots and score (sometimes efficiently, sometimes not) — therein lies his value.
But as for defense... As bad as Gary Neal is on that end, a 6'4 no-defense guard is better than a 6'0 no-defense guard.
Then Eric Manor has to be mentioned here, was a major role player for OKC sitting on the bench due to injury, could've been a big factor in any series.
