Payton Arrested in DUI Case

Gary Payton was arrested on su ion of driving under the influence after trying to back his car down an onramp on the San Diego Freeway near Brentwood early Aug. 28, the California Highway Patrol said.
Payton, traded from the Lakers to the Boston Celtics earlier last month, was stopped at 1:14 a.m. after an officer saw him backing down the Moraga Drive onramp to avoid heavy traffic caused by an accident.
Payton failed an on-site alcohol sobriety test and was taken to the West Los Angeles Police Department, CHP Officer Ron Burch said.
Payton, who was also cited for unsafe backing, was released to his wife, Monique, after completing a chemical test at the station. He is scheduled to appear at court in downtown Los Angeles on Oct. 15, less than two weeks after the Celtics begin training camp. Payton, 36, has threatened to retire rather than play for the Celtics.
Last year, Payton was charged with two counts of common assault and one count of assault causing bodily harm for his role in an alleged altercation outside a Toronto club in April 2003. A trial is pending. Payton was with the Milwaukee Bucks at the time.

timvp i objected when the lakers were bringing Gary Payton in. I never felt that our point guard position was the problem for us. Defensively Derek Fisher got blammed for a lot of the breakdowns, but it also had a lot to do with Shaq and his unwillingness to step out on screens. That same problem arrose this year with GP in the system.If he was a Laker, you'd be all over his nvts.
But when he did come in i was like well atleast we got another option. He will be able to create for us and play good hard nosed defense. I tried giving the man a chance. When Derek Fisher began to outplay him all the ing and moaning began. He was a damn cancer to the team. STFU and sit the 4th quarter.

This information according to LA radio sources is false. It was reported on Fox Sports radio that he was pulled over for trying to get off on a freeway offramp because an accident was blocking his way when he already passed it. They said he passed his DUI tests but admitted to having two beers earlier in the day. He was given a ticket and sent home.
I'm not sure what story is true, but I heard this like Kori did a few weeks ago, and he specifically mentioned that there was no dui charges.
Tawnia79, Two beers huh? That's like the standard answer to give to a cop during a pull over. Wasn't that what the dude said on that Texas DUI comercial about the crack down where they show all the examples of people being pulled over?

What do you do Boston fans, when the game is on the line and your point guard is drunk and backing off an on ramp? What do you do? Shoot the guy who made that trade.
On the other hand I have seen people in several instances just miss their freeway exit, pull off onto the shoulder and slowly back up the shoulder so they can pull off onto the exit ramp they missed. Those people are idiots and need sterilization immediately.
