No mention of the Spurs, but surely they have to be one of the 10 teams currently using this system...

Was wondering which teams have the system installed

That graphic of westbrook's shot selection after dribbling made me laugh. I would love to see manu's shot selections over the years on a graphic like that

The Spurs are one of the teams. I remembered reading about this earlier in the season, but couldn't remember where. Eventually found it:

    http://espn.go.com/blog/playbook/tech/post/_/id/492/492

    From the article:

So STATS, led by vice president of strategy and development Brian Kopp, sought out the most tech-savvy NBA teams for a test run during the 2009-10 season. He convinced the Dallas Mavericks, Houston Rockets, Oklahoma City Thunder and San Antonio Spurs to be the systems’ guinea pigs. The next year, the Boston Celtics and Golden State Warriors jumped in.

This year, ten teams’ arenas were fitted with SportVU: Boston, Golden State, Houston, Milwaukee, Minnesota, New York, Oklahoma City, San Antonio, Toronto and Washington. And that number is expected to grow into the teens next year.

Dallas passed because the data is shared among all of the teams. That was a prerequisite of participation. Why so secretive, Mark? Everyone knows Dallas is old slow and sucky. No secret there at all.

So these stat geeks needed months of analysis to determine that Steve Nash is the best shooter in the NBA?

I could have told you that.

    More on SportVU

No one saw them last night. But they saw everything.

Up in the rafters of the AT&T Center, whirring nonstop, were six cameras, three per half-court. They took pictures of the Suns and Spurs.

They took a lot of them. SportVU is an optical tracking system that creates a digital footprint of a game. Originally designed by an Israeli scientist for military use, SportVU records every on-court movement in three dimensions.

And as data was being collected — as the Spurs tried to keep up with the high-tech world — none of it likely impressed the coach.
