I know last off season was all about trading Parker. He responded with his best regular season ever, but he still was not able to carry the team into the finals. I have always thought that Parker is a great player but he is a regular season guy. I cannot see him elevating his game in the playoffs and carrying a team as Manu and Tim have done so many times before.

The question is: would you be open to shopping him now? I am not sure what teams would be interested or what we could get for him, but it is clear his trade value is at an all time high. He has a large but seemingly reasonable contract. We also have serviceable but not great options to replace him (De Colo, Mills, maybe Joseph if he can make huge strides this off season, or a point guard heavy free agent class). Or do you think he is worth keeping and building around in the post Duncan era?

That trade value dropped off quite a bit when he nearly lost an eye due to Drake and Chris Brown. Most teams are going to be cautious until he proves there is no lingering issues

There are doubtfully any trade scenarios involving Parker that make the Spurs better for the next season or two. Which completely goes against Duncan returning for a couple years, since he is not going to want to come back just for a rebuilding project.

Teams typically don't trade their best player, especially one that has been a franchise cornerstone and a good guy in the locker room and community for a decade. Even more so after following a season that finished with the league-best record (tied w/ CHI) and that ended in the WCF.

Yea that actually pissed me off quite a bit. Not very Spur-like to get in a bar fight with pop stars.

He didn't "get in a bar fight". He was stuck in the middle of the altercation and was protecting his girlfriend.

If I wanted to blow up the team and go all in for the lottery, then I'd trade him. If I thought I could contend for another year, I'd keep him.

Again, this ALL turns on what TD decides to do.

If TD retires, then yes bc he has value and it's the right thing to do by TP; that is, let him compete for another ring instead of entering rebuilding.

The only reason to even listen to a trade proposal involving Parker is if Duncan retires. Otherwise there's no way you trade the player whose skills you've built the team around.

And @ TP being a regular season player. Parker was asked to carry a load bigger than anyone in franchise history has carried not named Tim Duncan and got pretty darn close to the Finals.

LOL everyone blames Parker when Manu shoots 4-12 and is practically invisible in the elimination game.

I hate these Spurs fans who have never gone through a season of Vinny Del Negro and Chris Whitney running the point. Now half the board seems to be longing for that era again.

Thank you - at the end of the day there is only a few guys that could come in and do better than TP (you could make an argument only 1 or 2)

    Silly newbie.
Parker was asked to carry a playoff load bigger than anyone in franchise history has carried not named George Gervin, David Robinson or Tim Duncan.

Parker is still a keeper. Is he untradeable? No, but I don't see any rational trades out there [and fewer than zero on Spurs Talk].

Trading Parker for picks would be rational if Duncan retires and you're ready to blow the team up, but it's so amazingly stupid when people think the Spurs could be a decent team next year trading their only star player for guys who aren't going to do much next season.

You also have to look at the teams that would actually trade for Parker. At 30, he is probably at the height of his skills. He won't get better than he is now and he won't stay this good for more than three years. So the only teams that will trade for him are: (1) Teams on the verge of winning a championship that need a point guard of his skills (problem w/ these teams, for example, the Lakers, is that they have limited resources to trade); (2) teams that need star power and Tony Parker has a name (Brooklyn team could use Parker after losing D. Williams); or (3) a really stupid GM that has no real plans for improving his team (Brooklyn could again fit this description, as could the Washington Wizards or Toronto Raptors, etc.).

There are scenarios out there, but realistically, these threads are more about venting one's hatred for Tony Parker, and less about actually making smart basketball moves. If we are contending for a le next year (hard to say we aren't after this year) then we won't get a player that moves us closer to that goal by trading Parker unless we could swing some Tony Parker for Deron Williams (sign and trade) assuming (a) Williams refuses to resign with the Nets (which he should do if he wants to win) and (b) he would be willing to come to S.A.

I guess I should have said "successfully carried" for those who need their hands held.

As mentioned earlier, nothing will happen until the TD situation is resolved. If Duncan decides to hang em up, then all bets are off and everyone not named Kawhi Leonard is trade bait (including Parker and Manu).

That's the the answer to the question posed in the thread le.

But thanks to the OP for starting the thread. I was about to start a "Where are all the trade Tony threads?" thread.

"Successfully carried" to a 4-2 WCF loss for those who need their noses wiped.
On the hand held scale, Parker equalled Robinson, (but I'd still go with Robinson).

On the new wiped nose scale, Gervin in the ECF versus the Bullets drops Parker to at least third. Gervin in 1979 was the best player in the Bullet series. Too many of you kids don't appreciate how good Gervin was.

I'd have to put Ginobili in 2005 well above Parker also.

In the initial scale, Parker at 5th is still damn good, and not worth the derision of the board about his on court playofff performance.

The best two PGs in the 2012 playoffs lost in the conference finals.
