76ers have decided to Amnesty as per Wojo on twitter.

The 76ers have decided to use the amnesty clause on Elton Brand and the $18M left on final year of his deal, league sources tell Y! Sports.

No. Only teams under the cap can bid for Brand.

Him & Blair are tough to tell apart maybe we can swap them out and no one would notice.

Teams under the cap are allowed to bid for his contract. Highest bid wins. That team will get Brand for a fraction of 18M. Philly pays the rest.

I know that. I thought they still were under the cap. All they have signed on the roster (or at least committed) is Deron, JJ, MarShon and Brook...

Edit: Oh and that Euro they're giving their MLE to.

    And Wallace.

    They're over the cap.

I am pretty sure he will be claimed. He is still decent. Not worth that 18m contract, but for a 3/4m bid he is worth it. Too bad we can't make bid.

Deron 17, JJ 20, Wallace 10, MarShon 1, Brook 5... $53m. They're not. They can keep the MLE until after putting in a bid.

Cap holds put them way over.

Teams under cap get first chance to bid on amnestied players. Bobcats, Hornets, Rockets, Cavs, Mavs, Suns, Blazers among those w/room.

Teams with a trade exception can too bid on amnestied players but Spurs don't have a significant trade exception.

Anyway, somewhat will claim him. Brand on a 1 year/$3M contract is a bargain. My guess is that he will go to Dallas.

@ESPNSteinLine: Mavericks, sources say, are one under-the-cap team to already express interest in claiming Elton Brand.

So... You want to try and go under the salary cap and sign brand but lose out on Diaw and Lorbek? Seems legit.

The Spurs won't be able to get under the cap even if they amnesty Bonner and don't bring back Blair+Neal because of the cap holds of Green and Mills (and Duncan).
