The Hornets, Suns and Timberwolves have agreed to a multiplayer trade sending 7-foot center Robin Lopez and forward Hakim Warrick from Phoenix to New Orleans, while moving forward Wesley Johnson and a first-round draft pick from Minnesota to Phoenix, a person familiar with the deal said

The person told The Associated Press about the trade on condition of anonymity Wednesday because it has not been announced pending the completion of some routine logistical matters.

The deal also sends guard Jerome Dyson and retiring center Brad Miller's $5.1 million contract from New Orleans to Minnesota, allowing the Timberwolves to clear space under the NBA's salary cap as they pursue free agents. Minnesota also will receive two second-round draft picks from New Orleans, while the Hornets will receive cash.

Miller shouldn't be able to go back to Minnesota:

A team cannot reacquire a player they traded away during that season (a season being July 1 - June 30). If he is waived by his new team, then he cannot re-sign with his original team until the one-year anniversary of the trade, or until the July 1 following the end of his contract, whichever comes first. However, if a team trades a player's draft rights, they can reacquire the player during the same season.

yeah they would be better off if they know they can try it first on something like trademachine, instead of making forlorn attempts and getting rebuffed time after time

I've heard something about waiting until Miller filed official retirement paperwork, but can you trade a retired player's contract? I've never heard of that.

The Spurs did it with TJ Ford's contract.

No they didn't. He announced that he was done playing, but he never filed retirement papers. He was still on the roster when he was traded. Golden State waived him after the trade.

As long as Warrick's contract can be terminated after the season, then this trade is not bad at all. They needed another center and Lopez provides a low-risk move. 5 million is not much. Anyone who thinks so doesn't understand the market and the CBA.

^I'd be surprised if they don't still get something done.

It's been funny enough watching Kahn and Blanks trip over their s about knowing salary cap rules.

Bowen was traded as part of the Jefferson trade.

Keith Van Horn was traded post retirement by Dallas to NJ in the Jason Kidd deal.

Now the reports are that Brad Miller would be traded to the Suns, but that the teams are still trying to get it to fit with league rules.

    Bowen wasn't retired.

The KVH loophole was closed in the 2011 CBA.

    Phoenix Suns 2012-13 roster:

    Goran Dragic/Kendall Marshall
    Shannon Brown/Jared Dudley/Wesley Johnson
    Michael Beasley/Jared Dudley/Wesley Johnson
    Luis Scola/Markieff Morris
    Marcin Gortat/Channing Frye

Wow, that's even worse than the "logjam at guard" Kings. They're also in the same division as the "D12 or not we're gonna win the division anyway" Lakers, the always dangerous Clippers, and the dangerous-if-healthy Warriors.

the suns got better than last year at least, replacing an overpaid selfish nash with some bargain signings such as scola and brown, and bring back goran dragic who was a fan favorite during his former tenure in phoenix
