Well, Phelps and Lochte off to an interesting start!

I think they are making too much out of Phelps and the 400 IM. We all know he was not even going to swim it and he did not focus his training on this one 400m event. They keep trying, also, to make the Olympic swimming a battle between Phelps and Lochte, but they only swim 2 of the same events. The guy from Japan went out with a big time but the rest of the guys are all within about a second in a 4-minute race. Going to be interesting to see how much Phelps has left in the tank for the last lap. In true Phelps manner, he barely outtouched the guy by 0.07 seconds, and that ended up being for the final spot.

Put simply, Phelps has made it clear through his actions after Beijing, that he is not motivated to dominate at his sport.

Phelps nearly failing to qualify in the 400 IM shows he just isn't in the condition he needs to be to bring home golds....he looked so bad I wouldn't be surprised if he wins just 1 or 2 golds (which is honestly how tragic this is, because some people train their whole lives just to win 1 and Phelps is squandering his abilities to win them all).

Also, I feel like Phelps is trying to act like he doesn't care about winning unless it's a relay/team event. To me it's like he's battling his own demons that his celebrity has brought.

Phelps looks like a rock star who is tired of singing his hit song after 10 years of singing it, but is forced to because he's under contract.

no I don't think he's a TOSB, he just doesn't have the passion to dominate at a sport he clearly could.

I don't follow swimming, but why do you think its not lack of ability? I'm just curious.

Do you think he lacks the ability to dominate? He's 27 years old (so is Lochte) in a sport where athletes peak 26-29 years old. He's won 16 olympic medals, 66 medals in international compe ion, tied the most number of medals in an Olympics (8)....twice!

There is no reason other than lack of determination for Phelps to continue to dominate at his sport.

Is it me or did Lochte smile a little more when he saw Phelps didn't even medal? You know Lochte is tired of playing second fiddle to Phelps; and hearing about Phelps so much.

Also worth noting is that in all the interviews with Phelps after both the U.S. qualifying games as well as after finishing 4th in the 400 IM, he seems to blame his coaching....sounds very bitter about it.

This guy just got complacent and y as .

He probably thought the wins would come to him instead of working for them.

I like Phelps but he needs to get a reality check. Hopefully the enbarrasment that he went through with the weed and perhaps a few event losses will get this guy thinking about his set goal in life.
