Yeah, the top 5 is supposed to be fully booked for the ESS EEE SEE only, tbh...

well, I was alluding to the fact that Oregon will be starting an inexperienced quarterback as well as having some new faces in the backfield (James is now a 49er) I guess their defense is supposed to be really good, at least as good as a PAC defense can be anyway...

Not really the ingredients for a top 5 team, imo

I always pull for the smurf turfers, but you and Vander sure are ty ambassadors for that school.

And yeah, i'll indulge you. The SEC is the best conference in football, but I wouldn't put another SEC team in the top 5. Who would you put there?

  10. #10
As long as the SEC has all that team speed they will rule. The big guys can run! The non SEC teams that can treatened are the ones with speed themselves like USC and Oregon, just not the same depth.

Oregon has De Anthony Thomas, who outside of Lattimore and Davis, can possibly be the most explosive RB in college football. They also have Kenjuan Barner and a superb offensive line that returns the corps of the group back. It is their D that, surprisingly, is returning a great deal. In my opinion, they're maybe 8-10 since they really don't play anyone tough besides USC this year they get buoyed by that fact. I'm also guessing Knight has some sway, too: Vote us top 5 and you get free Air Huraches!

Who was the best defensive player? Claiborne would've been my pick...no way it was Matthieu...

But these preseason rankings are always just fodder for discussion anyhow.

There are 4 constant non-SEC teams that can threaten them in any given year.

tOSU, USC, Oklahoma, and Texas. Probably add FSU to that list but I don't think they are back just yet.

Winning in college football isn't about conference it's about recruiting, and these 4 teams are consistently good recruiting schools.

Well if colege football isn't about conference then how come Boise State/TCU get the disrespect they did? Yes it is about conference, kids wanna play for the big dawgs, those SEC teams, those you mentioned.

yes the college game is all about recruits...obviously...that's why the SEC has ruled lately, they recruit speed at every position. Who hasn't heard...SEC speed?

I agree with you about a few theams being threats, but when we look at depth of solid teams it's been the SEC. They have more good teams, more depth, big guys who can run.

Those southern HS's are loaded with speedy athletes that's where the SEC recruits.

Big 12 south schools are just as fast as SEC schools, same can be said of ACC schools. Same can be said of the Cali schools. Speed isn't only found in the Southern states of the SEC.

All the schools I mentioned are just as fast as any SEC school, when it comes to speed you can even throw in Miami Virginia, V-Tech, the North Carolina schools, UCLA and even feKal.

As for conf. The reason TCU and BSU are held out is all about politics. It's got nothing to do with on the field performance.

    Totally wrong.

Do I really need to make that long long list of sprinters/long jumper/hurdlers who have played in the SEC? And if you follow the college game at all you have heard..."the big guys can run in the SEC"...right?

The SEC has has soooooooooooooooooooooo many speedy players far more than any other conference it's not even close. Olympians like Jeff Demps.

And no it's not about politics when it comes to Boise/TCU it's about playing a weak schedule.

And the weak schedule is a result of... wait for it.... politics! The big boys all love to hold the schedule over Boise State, but very few have the balls to put forth a non-insulting, serious offer that doesn't treat a 2-time BCS bowl winner like an FCS team, tbh...

Why do they do it? Keeping out more compe ion from the big stage, that's why....

As if the 4-team playoff won't just feature 3 SEC schools and a token PAC or Big 12 sacrificial lamb, tbh...

BSU's chance will come when the superconferences form and the PAC or Big 12 decide to "take a risk" on one of the best-run programs in the nation, tbh....

yeah, that's why I put hope so in there..you're probably right, though

Really, I think that it will get expanded again when the wads who make the decisions see just how awesome a playoff is

in other news, the FCS just expanded its playoff to 24 teams http://www.foxnews.com/sports/2012/0...oval-for-2013/
