Gonzales is the only one doing something for the Red Sox.
They should have traded Becket a year ago.
Who are the Red Sox getting if this happens?
that or follow thier fellow NL champs, the Giants and the Cardinals, and win it all.
Red Sox would get Rubby De La Rosa and James Looney and 3 unnamed prospects.
The Red Sox organization simply does not know how to make transactions. Its like they dont have a sense for the future. lol
Crap pretty much...
"Pitcher Rubby De La Rosa will be headed back to Boston as the centerpiece of the deal, sources say. De La Rosa made his first major league appearance of the season Wednesday, having had Tommy John surgery about 13 months ago. Also included are first baseman James Loney and prospects Ivan De Jesus (infielder) and Jerry Sands (outfielder), according to sources, plus another top prospect that is still unknown."

That other top prospect better be Zach Lee or Webster from the Dodgers, or else this trade completely sucks. Getting De La Rosa who is just coming off Tommy John surgery as the main piece of a trade isnt exactly smart. I'm fine with the Sox getting rid of Beckett, Crawford, and Punto, but not A-Gon. Who's going to play 1st base? Mauro ing Gomez? James crap Loney? No thanks. As far as I'm concerned the Dodgers can take anyone off the Sox roster except Pedroia and Gonzalez....
It's a clubhouse lawyer clearout, tbh. Valentine's biggest problems are Gonzales and Beckett. If they get a "top prospect" as rumored and don't have to send any, or at least not too much money to pay Crawford, it's a win.
Webster is the reported PTBNL. He didn't clear waivers (and wouldn't) so he'll go whenever non-waiver trades are opened again.
Can't speak for the Cards, but the Giants did it in a mostly organic way
even with a prime Becket (not even close to a sure thing), SF pitching > Dodgers pitching
And the Giants will have big $$$ to spend themselves this winter...and even more once Zito's ty contract is up after next year
trying to buy their way past the Giants
swept
Hoping zach Lee makes it in the big leagues. He went to the HS across town and would always kill us in football in the crosstown showdowns. He was a pretty good QB.
De La Rosa is a beast and future #1 starter fyi.
so the dodgers are trying to buy their championship just like the lakers and getting way up their on their payroll
and the new cba tells small market teams can not give draft picks bonuses so they will sign with you
a joke
If the Dodgers were really trying to buy a championship, why on Earth would they squander their money on Beckett and Crawford?
they have to take beckett in order to get gonzo
this move to me tells me their manager for boston will be back next year and then when hsi contract is up he he gone
ask their front office
The Giants repeatedly turned big time trade offers down when people wanted Matt Cain, Lince , Bumgarner
That's how they won a championship
All are guys who came up through their system
Gonzo is a pimp, but the rest of those guys have probably already seen their best days. LA woulda been better off keeping those prospects, imo
mos def
A clear statement by the BoSox front office that they support their manager. Even if the trade doesn't go through.
, they may have never even meant to trade anyone, and instead just used the rumors to send a message to the whiners in the clubhouse
If the proposed trade goes down, idk why you think it's such a bad deal. They dump their 3 highest paid players when 2 of them were completely useless and get a host of prospects back. They're a rebuilding team and this is the type of trade a rebuilding team makes.
I'm more pissed with Gonzales getting shipped.
It honestly cant get any worse for the Red Sox so we'll just have to wait and see.
This deal, however doesn't exactly make them top seriously contenders at the moment.
Next year will be interesting to see what they do with all that freed up money.
Hooray! 5.23 era/5 wins-11 loses and a guy with one working elbow....woot!! Haha
I'm surprised Beckett didn't veto it. He's already been a huge cancer for Boston the last 2 years, vetoing it woulda really cemented everything he's done to get the Red Sox where they are.
They weren't close to serious contenders before this deal. They're a rebuilding team whether they wanna acknowledge it or not.
Boston just raped you LA...how does it feel?

Not sure what to make of this trade. Beckett is , but Crawford can be a plus OF/leadoff hitter and Gonzalez can rake, but they are completely going all in with this deal. They have given up two of their better young players in de la Rosa and Webster and still have for pitching. Kemp, Ethier, Gonzalez, Ramirez is a solid 3-6, but they need pitching now to keep up with the Giants and pitching later to keep up with the Diamondbacks. This robs them of this need.
They lose nothing but paid money immediately, but short-term says they are around their CAP limit, and long term they have invested in an older team with several of its blue-chip prospects now elsewhere.
Good trade... Boston hitting the reset button. Hopefully they'll be smarter when they hand out contacts to the next big thing.
