Syrian rebels said they will start executing a group of about 48 Shiite pilgrims from Iran if Tehran and Damascus do not comply with their demands, according to a video posted this week on YouTube.

The pilgrims were abducted in August.

In the video, a rebel officer -- dressed in camouflage and standing in front of what appears to be a group of hostages -- addresses the Iranian and Syrian governments.

The officer says his group has tried to negotiate with Syrian authorities for the hostages' release in exchange for that of rebels held in regime prisons, but those efforts failed "because of the reluctance of both the Iranian and Syrian regimes."

while the rebels are evils, it doesn't seem like the syrian government is anything better. the west have to choose the lesser between two evils (like the presidential election to some extent) and the rebels are their choice

when is America going to wake up that these people don't like us. Never have and never will. You should never negotiate with terrorist. I don't like Obama and Hillary being all warm and fuzzy with these ers and inviting them into our country. Inviting the Muslim Brotherre s to the white house?? WTF That's like inviting Hitler to a human rights party and then accusing everybody of being a racist if you don't accept him.

It's not "the West" in general. It's in the interest of US/UK oilcos, and AIPAC/Israel.

US/UK intervention in Iraq worked. US/UK oilcos are now extracting oil in Iraq, rather than Saddam excluding specifically the US and UK while contracting exclusively with France, Russia, China. Saddam excluding US/UK oilcos is really what made him an "evil man". America could GAF about any 100K Iraqis he murdered. Only suckers belief that lie.

Not to get in the way of the isolationist movement but I did not find was the part where the article states that these guys are funded by the US. The le of the thread is not the le of the article either.

The words "US," "U.S." or "United States" are not even in the article. Way to mislead the forum though. Now back to your regularly scheduled isolationism.

There's no oil in Syria, so no direct (financial) interest by USA until Syria starts to bother the flow, price of oil from M/E to USA.

Actually, the price doesn't matter because $150/barrel would be a windfall for the oilcos. Not getting enough oil is the real problem.

I hope Gecko pushes hard for US direct involvement Syria, which would exclude him definitively from the WH.

"if we don't help them more will die"

this is the kind of mentality that gets us in trouble in the first place.

So arming and financing terrorist and murdering groups, along with jihadists is "helping them"??? Maybe in the short run, you you can bet your ass probably more innoncents will die in the long term with those groups in charge.

People need to step back and look at the big picture, not only the next few weeks but the next few decades.

Oh and wake up. the US helping them is not because "the people need help" and we are being nice

its a chess game that the Saudis are playing with the Iranians, USA just happens to be the Saudi's pawn.
