IMO, a very solid to good back up guard, and with the departure of Glenn Robinson more than likely, would be a great fill in.
Would be an excellent 3rd point guard, veteran experience, DIEING for a ring.
Would only take the min.

That would be hilarious.
Can never have to many 3pt shooters.
My first choice would be Van Exel for the verge-of-retirement, ring-seeker role, but this would work.
Sign and trade. Barry for Beno.
Sounds like a deal!!!
That would be great to have the Barry brothers.
I rather have Beno than Jon. Beno is young and can be really good. Jon is old.
uh, whySign and trade. Barry for Beno.
Barry signed for the vet minimum. wich doesnt count agains the cap
why trade away a promising guard for a guy thatll be around 1 or 2 years.
If you trade Beno, make sure its for a Speedy Claxton type point guard.
this year i wished jason hart was here
Didn't seen enough of Jason this year to know if he handles the press any better.
His one-man transition D was nothing short of spectacular though....
I'm all for him if you decide that Devin Brown shouldn't come back. If Brown comes back, I don't think you can have Jon Barry too. The Spurs are going to need some size at the small forward position. I'd rather go after someone with a little more size, but if Devin doesn't come back, I think he'd be a fine pickup.
Vet minimum contracts do count against the cap. Half of the contract counts against the cap and is paid for by the team. The other half doesn't count and is paid for by the league. I haven't read whether or not it changes in the new CBA though.
You can, of course, sign players to minimum contracts if you're over the cap.
Jon Barry is good locker room glue.
I can tell you he was an assist monster on an unselfish Charlotte team.Didn't seen enough of Jason this year to know if he handles the press any better.
you replace Mike Wilk's position.
Come on, you can have Brown and Barry on the same team.
What would be interesting, is if Kori could find our comments on Brent Barry and see what we all said.
I know that from what I saw this season -- and who knew Brevin Knight still had so much game? Charlotte was a really good move for Hart -- he just wouldn't have developed as much here.I can tell you he was an assist monster on an unselfish Charlotte team.
Jason Hart got some assists when he played when Brevon Knight was hurt.
Brevon Knight was the assist monster. He was 2nd in the NBA behind Steve Nash for most assists for the year and he missed a lot of games.
He makes sense if Devin doesn't come back.
Actually, I could see Houston going for this offer. They are in dire need of a PG/backup PG.
Then again, according many on this forum, so are the 2005 NBA champion Spurs![]()
Jon Barry = Nacho seller.
Beno is worth keeping. I certainly would not move him for Jon Barry.
If you wanna put Jon on the IR, sure. I don't think it's going to happen. The Spurs have five guards already: Beno, Tony, Manu, Barry, and Brown (if he comes back).
Assuming that they carry five power forwards/centers (Scola, Duncan, Mohammad, Rasho, Horry), that leaves two power forwards. Bowen is obviously one of them. So that last small forward spot is between Jon Barry, Glen Robinson, Shareef, maybe The Third, and who know who else they've been thinking about. And that assumes that their draft choice (should they keep him) won't make the active roster.
Jon Barry isn't a small forward. Neither is Devin Brown. And while the two positions are somewhat interchangeable in the Spurs system, we learned this year that the Spurs have a need for a longer three. They also need to be giving someone some minutes in an attempt to groom a replacement for Bowen. Sure, Bowen will be great into the forseable future, but he's not going to last forever.
I'm assuming that Beno will be on the active roster because he's the only other true point guard. I'm also going to assume that Brown makes the active roster if he comes back.
I'd rather have a true small forward coming off of the bench behind Bowen. Jon Barry doesn't really have a role on a team with five guards. And quite frankly, if you expect Brown to be back and Scola to come in and the draft pick to have a shot at the active roster, Shareef and/or Big Dog don't really have a role either.
Pop isn't going to carry six guards, and you can be sure that they are going to search for at least one player of a little more size to play some power forward.
to Jon Barry the player...but I don't see him beating anyone out in the rotation...he is more of an energy guy than Brent(but if you sign him Brent is not going to let Jon outplay him)...and you guys will be wishing for Brent once Jon starts trying to take over the game and taking crappy shots. He is a better role playing 3 shooter than Brent...but I'd give Brent a chance to grow into the role...Brent is the winner out of the two.
His 04-05 salary was $ 1,800,000 so we could probably persuade him to come to the spurs for the Vet Minimum

and this way you can have Brent play more back up SG minutes while Jon splits the back up PG minutes with Beno

plus you get another veteran type player in the locker room
