Up to 6.3 million. I heard that he gained an additional $10mil through other sources.
Wing Commander creator Chris Roberts' new space sim made the jump to light speed in its final crowdfunding weekend, pushing Star Citizen well past Obsidian's $4 million Kickstarted RPG, Project Eternity, and to a new record of $5.8 million. I will now begin my own time machine Kickstarter project so I can zip forward to 2014 and play this thing.

The space sim will cost $12 million to $14 million to create, and Roberts says private investors are ready to kick in the remainder if the crowdfunding is successful. On the cusp of hitting $6 million (with three hours to get there as of this posting) I'd say successful is a major understatement. Kudos to everyone who chipped in, unlocking a number of stretch goals, including this new Spaceport test footage:
SHUTUP AND TAKE MY MOTHER ING MONEY!!!
