Ditto. So what should we call these new Republicans? I have a suggestion: why not call them “Democrats”?

"Anyone who imagines that there is any real soul-searching going on is deluding himself or herself."
ditto
Context is everything. He's not saying that doing soul searching or re-trenching your positions would make you a Democrat, he's saying that the Democrats have already beaten the GOP to those positions of moderation and centrism. They took the reasonable positions that the GOP abandoned in their suicidal rush to the extreme right. It's a pretty scathing indictment of where the GOP stands now.
The only way out for the GOP would be if the Dems drifted back to their Progressive base, and frankly I don't see that happening. They're in good shape now, having won the popular vote in 5 of the last 6 Presidentials. Nothing succeeds like success. The Clinton's really cleaned house pretty thouroughly and bodily dragged the party to the center in the 90s. It worked, too.
Except for that part about signing free trade agreements with Mexico and even worse China, and also letting Greenspan, Rubin, and Summers have their laissez-faire fantasy economy that directly lead to our current depression. Then there's Glass-Steagall's repeal. Democrats becoming Republicans has had pretty disastrous consequences so far unless you're a blue-team cheerleader. The piece of Obamacare that doesn't address costs and is a huge blowjob to the insurance companies is yet another example of the garbage you get now that the Democratic party has swung so far right these last 20 years.
they're just selling out to the new americans in order to get new votes..well they lost mine, if i ever would have voted for them anyway which is highly unlikely after bush, i'll continue to chill and stock up on survival gear. the fallout isn't going to be pretty people. opening up a canadian bank account like a certain scro who posts here isn't a bad idea at all.
"The piece of Obamacare that doesn't address costs"
yes, it does. $750B reduction in costs by lowering payment to providers, not reducing $750B in coverage to patients, as Ryan's plan does.
I thought you were leaving the country.
Hence the Canadian bank account.
So you're going to move to Canada to get away from what you think is an increasingly socialist government in the US?
Sounds about right.
It's called diversification. Shouldn't put all your eggs, or money, in one basket.
One is free to diversify in as many socialist countries as one wishes.
We're talking about two different things. I'm saying I'd go to Canada if the economy collapsed and every day was like Black Friday except fighting for food instead of electronics. Not saying I'd move to Canada to stick it to the us govt, I'm not a fan of Canada's socialist style of government either.
Why would Canada let you in? You'd be no better than the illegal aliens coming into the US tbh.
Well for one I would already be a step above the be@ners because I'd be coming there fleeing for my life, not just to come take jobs away from Canadians and for 2 I'd come educated and at least with a decent amount of work experience by that time (my company has a canadian operation as well) and would be of more value than 97% of society there. I also wouldn't sign up on welfare and I'd work hard, I'm not coming in with pre-existing health conditions if this happened today to be a drain on their taxpayer so they'd probably accept me with open arms tbh.
So you would be there to take a job from Canadians.
lol fleeing
Although one thing is true, I definitely need to look into the prospect of applying for dual citizenship immediately.
When do you predict the economic collapse?
You should go now tbh. Have to be a permanent resident for three years.
Bon chance!
wonder how hard it would be to get a work visa and how long they last..just to have chillin just in case
Good to know you've got this all sussed out.
I really haven't put too much thought into it, for the longest time I was strictly focused on finishing school and getting a job, finished school in august found work a month later so now I've just been saving money and making some preparations. Simply haven't had enough time to plan this out in full. Glad to know that you're really concerned with my life and plans though, if you want to do the work for me since you're so interested let me know what I'll need to do in order to put together a complete escape route, thanks in advance glad to know you care.
Sorry, already knew what I posted.
The funny part is, you'd believe anything I told you.
No, I'd fully expect you to source your information, por favor gracias in advance. Or should I say s'il vous plait merci since we're talking about Canada. Since you care.
Well, you're probably used to disappointment by now.
