This is something those that may not understand the game of basketball. will not get.
what mwp is saying and has said last year.
is that "when we play TOGETHER" we can't be beaten, especially not in a 7 game series.
its not over confidence in self(your own team).
its real.
TOGETHER means - we are all on the same page offensively (we know our coaches scheme to a T. we all agree with the game plan. and we will execute the game plan properly for a majority of the game(no team executes 100% perfectly all game long).
defensively its the same thing. we know our defensive schemes. we all agree with them and embrace them. we play together on a string. we help the helper most of the time, not every blue moon. we study our opponent as a team and as individuals. so we know everyone's weakness and strength. this is how we will dismantle each team. with our strengths to cover any of our weaknesses.
MWP is saying if every team in the nba played to their max potential. the lakers last year and this year would be the best team and would still beat every team.. and he's right.
the reason why he's right is because we are still THEE only team in the nba. that has a MONSTER threat on the block(drew last year as well). we have guys who should be able to make 3's(kapono, murph, glock, kobe, mwp (career wise), blake, were all guys that should've been able to hit 3's last year but didnt. this year its obvious we're 6th in the nba for 3pt%. so we have the shooters.
SO now you have a MONSTER downlow block presence that affords you the ability to just dump it down low and manufacturer points when the perimeter game aint working and you're not getting the whistle from the refs. no team can do this like the lakers can(same for last year with healthy drew.)
we have the 3 balls to spread the floor.
we have kobe bean bryant as our main goto guy.
this means we have the ultimate BUCKET getters on one team. a down low presence like no other(drew/dwight) and the greatest sg of all time in KOBE that isnt DONE killing people.
when you have a guy that could go off for 55 at any moment from the perimeter. that isnt a hot dog(can still give you 4 assist per even when guys arent making shots. you have something for the opponent to take a lot of time figuring out.
last but not least. because we have kobe, mwp, (drew and now dwight)
we have the best 3 defenders at their respective positions in the nba when NEED BE(last 5 mins of a qtr to close a game out).
drew was a very very good man defender at his position
dwight is a very very good man defender at his position
drew was a very good team defender in the paint
dwight is an EXCELLENT Team defender in the paint and even if he has to come out on screen n roll plays.
we have clutch players that wont quit no matter what.
KOBE, mwp, (drew wasnt scared, i dont think i have ever seen dwight choke per se),
then i havent even mentioned the potential of gasol, i never even brought up the legend named nash. i never brought up the fact that jamison is a top 50 of all time scorer and he's coming off of our bench.
i never brought up the fact that jordan hill is a very good man defender and a very good team defender. i mean he's very good even as a starter. but as a bench player he's excellent.
dwiight is a monster rebounder, mwp and kb are high on the list at their positions for boards. and they have proved to you in the past. if they need to. they will snag 10+ to win a series/finals.
jordan hill is a monster rebounder(especially for a bench player).
jordan hill actually has more offense then ibaka and perkins in the low post and he's our bench guy that is getting timed snatched away by jamison.
the fact we look half decent with our 3rd string and 4th string pg's in the game shows you how good we are. any team not playing with their primary or 2ndary pg's. or if you take away their primary facilitator. said team would be losing a lot more games then we have and by a lot bigger margin.
again if we make a few more ft's and dont give the ball away a few less times. we would not only be above .500 but well over it. that should tell you something.
MWP knows exactly what he's talking about. he knows what this team is capable of. we're capable of running off 20+ games in a row. not saying it will happen. but it COULD happen.

Chemistry takes lots of time to develop. It will take a lot longer with your ego-maniac star. The Lakers tried to go out and buy a championship like always it just didn't work this time. Maybe next time.

at least the OP got witnessed the real great years of the lakers unlike the other 99.9% who jumped aboard their wagon only because of kobe and who didn't know damn about NBA before jordan & the bulls made league a global brand in the 1990s
