In division games the Spurs are 8-0 currently. What advantage is it exactly to win division games over any other? Doesnt regular season record just trump everything else?

It'll come in handy if they finish with the same record and same head-to-head record with a team from their division.

Division winners are guaranteed to be a top 4 seed, but not necessarily given home court advantage if their matchup has a better record.

This site describes playoff seeding pretty well. http://basketball.about.com/od/nba-p...a-Playoffs.htm

or if they have the same record from the other conference
i believe in 2011 the spurs and bulls basically had the exact same record til the last day and if the spurs won the last game it would have come down to something like division or interconference record

The point is -- as td4mvp21 noted -- is that division record is the second tiebreaker for teams in the same division. This most likely only affects the 2012-13 Spurs in the event of a tie with Memphis, but it's pretty realistic to think that the Spurs and Grizz will end up with a split of their season series, in which case the effective tiebreaker becomes division record. Spurs are halfway through their division schedule with 0 losses; the Grizz are 3-2 in the division, having wins v. DAL, v. HOU, @ NOH and losses @SA and @HOU.

The real significance of this will be better known in about 14 days, since the Spurs and Grizz meet twice between 1/11/13 (@MEM) and 1/16/13 (@SA).

Coin toss, since they had the exact same interconference record that year.

The Spurs will be almost completely done with their division slate by January 25. Between now and then, the Spurs have games @NO, @MEM, v. MEM, v. NO, @DAL in the next three weeks.
