Very nice!
At the conclusion of last night's games, the Spurs are averaging 105.9 points per game. 1st in the NBA.
They are also allowing just 96.9 points per game. That is good enough for 4th in the West.
The Spurs now have the #1 point differential in the NBA. They have done this despite playing the 5th toughest schedule in the league to date.
Margin of victory since Kawhi Leonard returned: 16.0. Double what any other Western Conference team has managed in that span.
Looking at points per game without factoring pace of the game isn't that meaningful.
Points allowed and scored by 100 possession reflects way more the quality of a team's defense and offense. Spurs are currently 4th in both points scored and points allowed by 100 possessions.
That's why I qualified it with both points scored, and point differential.
Some more stats...
The Spurs are 2nd in the league in FG%. They are 9th in the league in FG% allowed. That's good enough for 6th in the West.
Perhaps the most encouraging sign: They are 2nd in the league (behind Indiana) at 3 point % allowed, at .326. That would seem to indicate we're closing down on open shooters a LOT better this year.
Oddly enough, we are 6th in the league in FT%.
Mayans got the date wrong TBH. 2013 is the year.
Do you use ESPN for this stat or another site? ESPN has the Spurs at fifth for defense.
I'm using basketball-reference.com:

Thanks.
