...He tried to run on the Pistons...I'm still in shock over that...there is no telling with Pop anymore.

He can still rebound...he was playing better than Yao in the playoffs...he can still do it all, he just can't do it as long.

I've always thought Dikembe would make a great Spur, the guy is hilarious...he's a good guy...unless you happen to be on the wrong end of one of his bows.
He'll be better than Kevin Willis was.
he did outplay yao. how many times did the announcer have to say... "and here comes dikembe... yao just picked up another foul" and he looked more solid too... but he's slower than rasho. (yikes)

Mutombo to Rose: Dunk no more

EAST RUTHERFORD, N.J. (AP) -- The first guarantee of the NBA Finals goes to New Jersey Nets center Dikembe Mutombo.
Sorry, it has nothing to do with the Nets beating the San Antonio Spurs in either the series or in Game 4 on Wednesday night at the Continental Airlines Arena.
Mutombo just issued a pre-emptive finger wave to Malik Rose. If the San Antonio forward tries to dunk over the 7-foot-2 Nets center, as he did in Game 3, the ball may end up back in New York City.
Mutombo entertained the media Tuesday, discussing Rose's fourth-quarter windmill slam that ignited the Spurs to victory in Game 3 on Sunday night.
Much was written about the dunk, and television replayed it over and over.
Now Mutombo is sick of hearing, reading and seeing it.
"To me a dunk is a dunk," said Mutombo, a four-time NBA defensive player of the year. "I got dunked on more in my career than I can remember that dunk. I can tell you I didn't see it. I didn't see it coming."
Rose, 6-7, got a step on Kenyon Martin and Mutombo was a little late coming over to help, which gave Rose a free jam.
"The kid got a dunk and I saw the paper today, they talk about a dunk," Mutombo said in his ultra-baritone voice. "I hope he comes with another one. He's going to see where it ends up. Trust me. If he tries to bring that dunk again, we will see it."
The more Mutombo talked about it, the funnier he got.
"I got dunked on at All-Star games, you name it, all the compe ions I have played," Mutombo said. "I got dunked on by Shaq, Kobe, you name any player. Michael Jordan."
The mention of Jordan sent Mutombo on a tangent about Jordan.
"It took him for so long to dunk on me, but when he finally did and he gave me the finger wave in my face," Mutombo said. "I said: `Mike you got it, but it took you so long."
Mutombo said dunks are one of things that make the game exciting. Fans come to see them and really react to a good one.
Rose's was a great one. He termed it "pretty impressive."
While Mutombo also appreciated it, he thought he was blown out of proportion.
"I was a little bit upset to read all this [stuff] going on about Malik Rose, Malik Rose," Mutombo said. "I thought it was somebody. I love the kid. He is a nice kid. He worked his way up to make himself a star, but don't put him up there like he is the top of this building."
Rose groaned when asked about the dunk after the Spurs arrived a few minutes late for their availability.
"Oh God, you got anything on Game 4?" Rose shot back.
When told Mutombo wasn't going to let him dunk again, Rose went along.
"Maybe it won't [happen]," Rose said. "That's the first time in seven years for me. I got him that one time. That's all I need."
Spurs center David Robinson appreciated how Mutombo felt about the dunk. He's been there before.
He also had his own MJ story.
The first time he saw the NBA's greatest player, he wanted to go over and say: " o, Mr. Jordan. How are you?"
Jordan didn't let him.
"He said: `I'm going to dunk on you big fellow. I've dunked on all the other big fellows and you're next,"' Robinson recalled. "It took me back.
"I said: `Don't even try that. Don't even bring it up in the paint."
Four years later, the Bulls made a late run on Robinson and the Spurs and Jordan dunked over Robinson and looked back at him.
"`I told you I was going to dunk on you,"' a smiling Robinson recalled Jordan saying. "It just made me so mad."
Mutombo talks about being angry and smiles as widely as Robinson.
"I wish my kids had asked me about it, maybe I would feel bad," Mutombo said. "No one of them asked me about it, so I cannot feel bad."
But Mutombo will not let Rose dunk again.
"The finger is going to be rolling," Mutombo said of the notorious finger wave he gives after blocking a shot. "I'm just going to ask him to bring that dunk again, see if he can beat K-Mart with one step and come again. I'll be waiting for him."
Um, no.
Mutombo would destroy the Spurs' offense. He's alright on the Rockets because their offense sucks anyways. But unless you want to revert Pop and his offense back to 2001, you better forget about this idea.
How can you even try and say that...You act like we get offense out Nazr and Rasho...we don't. We don't get any offense out of the C position...sorry but this guy will toughen up our interior D and I see no problem with having a 4 time DPOY C on our bench....even an old one. The Spurs haven't totally done away with their half court game...nor should they.
Dikembe just stands in the lane getting in everyone's way. He just stands there waiting to get the ball so he can try to shoot a hook.

His numbers were better in the playoffs...and if he'd have gotten some more of Yao's minutes the Rockets probably would have won.
There is no way you can tell me this guy wouldn't be an upgrade over Mass and Marks etc...and IMO over a rookie PF who is a weak rebounder and shotblocker...
Don't forget this team is still built around shotblocking and D...LOL I can't believe I am saying this to you.....

At the very least you do it to hope Nazr will learn to play better D from him...
i think he'd be a huge upgrade to tmass and marks... and even threaten rasho's mins... but why didnt rasho play in the playoffs? i thought his ankle was healed up better than both of tim's. (when he did play) i saw the spurs running more, and teams were running at them more too. nazr can at least keep up... albeit fumble the ball around if he ever does get it... houston was playing SLOWwwww. thats probably what beat them to, and slow/no transition defense.
Some times you need to play slow...because as we saw in the finals...sometimes the other team won't let you run...and at a time like that? It's good to have Deke to lay the smackdown on people that think you have a soft front...
Nazr is not fast...in fact none of our bigs are...but Dikembe will block shots and rebound at a rate probably better than anyone on the team...
And if you ask me...he's better on offense than Nazr is...at least he knows he doesn't have a J...
Even at this age...he will still push every big on our team not named Duncan or Horry...and he'll be a Pop favorite by the end of training camp...
This is a no brainer pick up for the Spurs...you want to run? Then leave Dikembe on the bench...it's not Rocket Science..
I love having the ability to run...but you still have to be able to play half court ball to win les...
Add Mutombo to our mix and we'll challenge our own record for opp FG% and we will have virtually no drop off in our D while Duncan is on the bench...I think Mutombo might still be a better defender than Duncan...he's just too old to get many minutes.
First things first, re-sign Big Shot Rob!
It's not a choice of Dikembe or Horry...Horry has his own exception. So does Devin...
Signing Dikembe could come out of the MLE...or he might sign for the minimum or the LLE...who knows? I don't even know if the Rockets have his bird rights...but they are going to be strapped for cash...
But if he's a FA...the Spurs have to seriously consider adding him...
And you know...Mutombo's teams always overachieve...they have his entire career...I think he's a major reason for it.

Dikembe's not an offensive threat but if he had played the same minutes as Yao (Yao played 30 and Mutumbo played 15) he would have had more blocks 2.6 to 2.0 and more rebounds 10.6 to 8.4 , plus he deters players from trying to go to the hole.
Definitely an upgrade, hopefully for the veterans minimum. Sounds like a good pick-up
Also, an upside for Spurs and Pistons fans is that free agents are more likely to want to sign with a team that has a chance to get them a ring.

Dikembe makes Rasho seem useful.
Dikembe in a role player off the bench has to be beneficiary to the Spurs. As long as Dikembe knows his role.
Dikembe Mutombo Mpolondo Mukamba Jean Jacque Wamutombo would make a great addition to the spurs. I like his swatting and finger wagging ability.
I have always liked him. I would defenitley get him (price right)
If the Spurs sign him and need an interperator I could do it, I speak alien.
