Another throwaway gesture in the direction of a problem with distinct social significance -- unemployment -- is permitted to lapse. I don't get what the problem is. Am I supposed to cry, or something?

the economy and jobs are the two tops priorities in all the nation-wide polls I've seen.
the "abstract" deficit is WAY DOWN the list
and of course DC does NOTHING about either.
