Completely different that the game yesterday.
Let us look fondly back on the early 2000s, a time when the NBA was dominated by skilled big men - especially power forwards. The 2000 and 2001 All Star Games are posted in full on youtube.
The 2000 West had one of the best starting lineups of all time:
PG - Jason Kidd
SG - Kobe Bryant
SF - Kevin Garnett
PF - Tim Duncan
C - Shaq
The bench included Chris Webber, Rasheed Wallace, Karl Malone, and David Robinson.
The 2001 West was almost identical, except Webber was voted a starter over Garnett. However, due to an injury to Shaq, Garnett started in his place, resulting in this lineup:
PG - Kidd
SG - Bryant
SF - Webber
PF - Duncan
C - Garnett
The bench included Wallace, Malone, McDyess, Robinson, and Divac. Apparently Nowitzki got edged out in voting, but he made the team in 2002.
I just think these teams were so much better than any recent teams. It's also fun watching highlights from the 80s and 90s all star games. Those teams were very center-heavy, including the likes of Kareem, Moses Malone, Olajuwon, Robinson, Shaq, Ewing, etc. The 2013 All Star Game had not one big man half as good as anyone from those teams. Ah, to reminisce...
Completely different that the game yesterday.
The perimeter players of the early 2000s were much better entertainers than the current breed of All-Stars..
Say what you want about Allen Iverson and Vince Carter, but these guys knew how to put on a show during the ASG..Jason Kidd knew how to put on a show..Shaq knew how to put on a show as well, and the West bigs were all great passers that made the game entertaining..
Today's All-Stars just chuck up 3s all game and try to win MVP, rather than putting on a show, tbh..
allstar games were much more fun to watch back then and that's why i'd rather see those TOSBs players in today's game rather than the likes of hliday, brook l
pez... who're all insipid as .
shaq is great![]()
The 1992 all star game was a great matchup...
Magic Johnson vs. Isiah Thomas
Clyde Drexler vs. Michael Jordan
Chris Mullin vs. Scottie Pippen
Karl Malone vs. Charles Barkley
David Robinson vs. Patrick Ewing
Those guys actually played defense in the ASG...Jordan in particular would chase down his man on a fast break and block their layup or dunk attempt.
Kevin Durant has singlehandedly brought down the quality of the last few All-Star Games with his hogging, statpadding, and overall desperation for the MVP, tbh....
Just watched the first 7 minutes of the 1992 ASG. Unreal how exciting it was to watch. Fast paced, aggressive, great passing. Jordan looks so quick out there.
another reason people don't get too excited about superstars playing together nowadays is because they pretty much get used to it in the regular season, when they can often see 5-6 superstars playing on the same court in a miami-lakers matchup or a game between OKC and miami etc... mean there's like an all-star game every other day tbh
Agreed. And to think, once upon a time I kinda liked OKC.
Also agreed. . Someone get the Delorean warmed up.
MJ was right, except I don't think Lebron could survive back then. He's just too much of a little .
Watching this was kind of depressing. The first quarter of this 92 game had more heart and excitement than the 4th quarter last night.
x 1000000000
Last night's ASG was just WAY too 3-pt heavy. I actually preferred when the benches were in because the intensity went up several notches.
paul george fga, were mainly 3pointers....
The All Star games were good when the players were allowed to wear their own jersey from their team and not some ty conference jersey.
first post in this thread I am not agreeing with ...
Magic in the 92 ASG
And Drexler too![]()
Umm, did you not see Kirby BLOCK THE OUT OF LEBRON WHEN THE GAME WAS ON THE LINE!?????
QQQQ
EEEEE
DDDD
all-star jerseys are but that was only a small part of the ugliness when the whole event was so fake and re ed tbh
So you want Tim Duncan or Kobe to wear a ty softball looking Western Conference jersey rather than a Spurs' jersey or Lakers' jersey?
Agree, wholeheartedly. I like it how they have the Rising Stars game with players wearing their own jerseys.
David Robinson guarding Isiah Thomas one on one in the perimeter, then stole the ball off his dribble!
