Without even looking the top 3 players for "free throws attempted" is probably some combination of Kevin Durant, Dwight Howard, and Kobe Bryant, possibly in that order.

James Harden, Kevin Durant, and Dwight Howard IIRC.

Oh yeah James Harden, good call. I always forget about him because his partially unwarranted excess of free throw attempts doesn't necessarily help to inflate the Rockets' record, whereas the beneficial effects of questionable reffing is patently obvious with a team like OKC (regular season + playoffs).

Side note:For some reason Kawhi isn't actually listed amongst the league leaders ( I don't think its because of a lack of games played) so I looked at his steals per game and inserted him where he should have been, same with Duncan's rebounds per game.

By far the most surprising stat is that Duncan is only .4 behind Larry Sanders (of all people ) for the league lead in blocked shots per game. Since most DVOP voters seem to be stuck in the stone age in terms of simply looking at blocks or rebounds and steals he should have a great chance of finally winning a DVOP. It doesn't hurt that he also has the best Defensive Rating in case voters actually take a look at stuff like that too.

    20.8 + (2.5*3) + (5.1*2) = 38.5
So according to your numbers, he's responsible for 38.5 points and almost 37% of the Spurs offense.

My mistake its actually 38.3 points contributed which makes it over 1/3 of the teams offense. I'll fix thanks.

One area where Irving could stand to improve a bit is assists per pass, where he's 65th overall and 23rd among point guards. That's a stat very dependent on having teammates who can finish, of course, and Cleveland's near the bottom of the league in true shooting percentage - which takes into account field goals, 3-pointers and free throws.

Perhaps it's not so surprising, then, that the league's leader in assists per pass is on a veteran team that's third in the league in true shooting percentage - even though he isn't a point guard. That would be Manu Ginobili (0.17), who has been slowed by a variety of injuries at age 35 but seems to be evolving as his career hits its latter stages.

His team seems to be adjusting just fine to the minute-management whims of a coach who's clearly eyeing a deep postseason run. Gregg Popovich's club has the NBA's best record at the break, which will make San Antonio awfully difficult to knock off in the playoffs should it maintain that. The Spurs have a plus-13.4 scoring margin at home, easily the best in the league.

In an era of the NBA that's blossoming on a daily basis with new ways to analyze what our eyes have seen for decades, can the decidedly old-school Spurs keep it up?

It should be fun to find out.

I take it that the Spurs don't have a league leader in offensive rebounds.

Not in the top 20, no. I'd also be willing to bet the Heat & Celtics don't have any players listed as well.

    So Parker's assists each game:
    2.5 assists on 3-pointers (7.5ppg)
    5.1 assists on 2-pointers (10.2ppg)
    That means his 7.6 assists/game = roughly 17.7ppg = 2.33 points per assist

I'd be curious to know how this stacks up to other elite PGs. It basically makes his assists more valuable than other assists.

Has anyone ever explored "Points Per Assist" as an advanced stat? Seems to me like it would be similar to Points Per Shot, etc.

The other "stat" I'd be curious about regarding PGs: How many assists were taken away because the shooter was fouled? In essence, you could add a 0.5 assist for every free throw made from a pass that would have been credited as an assist had they made the basket.

I'd love to see points per assists and something like an adjusted assist total to include freethrows. Like you said. When Rondo went down I saw on ESPN he had contributed something like 49 total points (points+assists) through he dominated the ball more than Parker.
