    http://www.gamespy.com/

I remember using this in beta, had no idea they were still around.

edit: Used it first as QSpy for Quakeworld.

Gamespy has been a corpse for the past 10 years. 1UP was decent until a couple of years ago, tbh.

Man I thought that site was long gone. Last time I used it was around 2004.

i never looked at the website, but in the days when in game server browsers were an afterthought the program was one of the few things to browse mod servers by type.

I was offered a position at Gamespy years ago when I e-mailed them a piece about Tachyon: the Fringe back in 2000 (1 year after gamespy came to life)... I was (and still am) a huge Bruce Campbell fan and he did the voice-over for the game. I basically submitted what you would consider a full review of the game hoping THEY would review it as well and instead got a reply with an offer for a position.... I never replied. Stupid me... IGN is now a big name in online gaming.

Gamespy was, until today, a habitual website that I visited multiple times a day to get my gaming fix while at work. Sad to see them go.

It would be fun to do it... That was 13 years ago though. At that time, the site was not part of IGN and was just a fan site. It was just a bunch of amature gamers with a passion. I doubt I qualify. Besides that, even with the passion I still have for games, I have a full time job that would interfere.

Why didn't you reply back to at least say no thanks? That was rather rude.

I was barely 20yrs old and starting a career in the IT field (which turned out to pan out for me).... Looking back, yeah I should have replied regardless.... but I was young, dumb and full of.... Well you know the saying.

    Hindsight is 20/20.

Regardless, I am actually happy with my current job and lament the Gamespy decision only because its going away now. I think it worked out for the better considering the news today. As fun as it would have been, I doubt I'd be making the same amount of money I'm making today and I still have basically the same passion for games as I did back then, probably even more so now that I can afford any game I want.

turning 33 in March and have more games to play than I ever did with the money to back my passion. I'm not dissatisfied with my place in life.

It is fun to think about how different things would have been had I decided to take that unknown leap back then.... Think 13 years ago and the state of gaming back then... It would have been a HUGE leap for anyone... who knew it would have turned out to be what it is today?

    Again, Hindsight is 20/20

Anyway, this thread isn't about me.... Sad to see gamespy go..... Don't know what site to visit now except maybe gamesradar.com or gamespot.com

    Ooops...

Time flies. Sometimes it seems like 2000 was just last year.

Well the, maybe you don't want to work what your hobby is. Doing so will likely destroy your passion for your hobby.

Good insight! never thought about it like that but certainly possible. It may have burned me out. In that case, I'm glad it didn't happen!

I know exactly what you mean, My father passed away Jan 6th of 2000, my mother passed away 2006, I'm no longer upset about it, but it still feels like it was just a few years ago and not an actual decade.... I still feel like I graduated from high school not too long ago. That was 1998. Time is a funny thing in the mind.

I don't mean to turn this into a philosophical discussion, so feel free to ignore this....

whats weird is I can remember the exact day my dad died and can recall "pulling the plug" in the hospital on Jan 6th 2000, but I cant remember the exact day my mother died. I know she died in 2006 but I cant even recall the month (never mind the day), and the only reason I know she died in 2006 is because I remember working for Washington Mutual in 2006 when I got the call from my Aunt.

    The mind is crazy.

Electronics used to be my hobby, since grade school. Then I worked on communications systems as an electronic technician.
