He's unrestricted and the Bobcats have his full Bird rights. He'd be a nice fit as a backup small forward. Hey, it's summer.

Okay, let me know how you all feel about this one, I think the Spurs should attempt some type of deal that could land them Gerald Wallace from the Bobcats. Who is Gerald Wallace well, he's a 22 year old aching to be the next Bruce Bowen, he has serious potential to be a great defender such as Bruce. Gerald is 6'7" 220 lbs, he averaged 11.1 ppg, 5.5 rpg, 2 apg, and was 9th overall in the NBA with steals this season. He's only 22 meaning he still has a long way to go in this league, under the wing of Bowen he could blossom into an all defensive team first pick each year. What do you think?

I would really like to see Wallace here, I think he would be a perfect heir apparent to Bowen.

OK. Looks like we have an ideal target for our Bruce Bowen understudy.

QUOTE=spurschick]Texas' trio of NBA teams set to tweak
    July 20, 2005
    http://www.caller.com/ccct/sports_co...940103,00.html

With only two days left before NBA teams can officially start rebuilding their teams, it looks like the Texas squads - San Antonio Spurs, Houston Rockets and Dallas Mavericks - will be making only minor moves this summer.

San Antonio may also be in the market for a future replacement for defensive stopper Bruce Bowen, who just turned 34. Charlotte's Gerald Wallace was among the league leaders in steals and blocked shots per minute and would be an interesting developmental player.[/QUOTE]

More Gerald Wallace from ESPN's Chad Ford:

    http://insider.espn.go.com/nba/colum...=2097694&num=5

    [I]24. Gerald Wallace, G/F, Bobcats
The skinny: With most of the top swingmen off the board, it's pretty surprising that Wallace hasn't garnered more interest this summer. He had an excellent year for the Bobcats last season, and has great size and athleticism for his position. Defensively, he ranked in the top 10 in steals last year. His jump shot will never be a thing of beauty, but Wallace is versatile and would be a great fit on a team still trying to fill a void at the two or three. However, most teams assume that the Bobcats would match any offer for Wallace. They are way under the cap and have to sign somebody. But the truth is that Bernie Bickerstaff isn't inclined to overpay. They want lots of cap room going into next summer and might be willing to let Wallace leave if the alternative is eating up an inordinate amount of their cap flexibility next season.

I say that depsite having played starters minutes last year for the first time in his career, this guy is still pretty raw. He would still provide some much needed athleticism, defense and energy off the bench, while continuing to develop his game without any pressure in a structured environment. Like Howard, he could hopefully improve his offense along the way.

Living in Dallas, I cringed and cussed when the Spurs passed on Josh Howard. This guy is in the same mold - crazy athleticism, potential defensive stopper and plays passing lanes well. Besides he would help address one of the Spurs' few defensive weaknesses - creating turnovers. They are simply not very good, as a team, at generating steals. There's no question he would be an ideal pickup.

The problem is, the Spurs don't have their full MLE to come at Wallace with a strong offer. Also, I have conflicting info on his free agent status. I think he's restricted.

The only way the Spurs could reasonably land him is in a sign and trade.

Gerald really cant shoot. He is similar to Josh Smith. He plays decent D, has good ups, but cant shoot to save his life. 'Cats will keep him...

It's vital for the Spurs' scheme for the SF to be able to shoot threes, often in the roach-corner. Otherwise, where do you put him?

He sucked last year. And he's making 10 mill. Surely the F/O are scared off of overpayed veteran SF's cough cough RJ cough. Jeff Green I wouldn't mind.

At this point he would be RJ all over again, no thanks. Plus him whining that he didn't know his role in the POs, despite playing the entire season in Brooklyn is kind of troubling

This guy is Kawhi Leonard...if Leonard never developed a reliable jump shot and were paid 10 times as much. I like the D, and not much else...especially not the $30M left on his contract.
