I'm trying to gauge the fans opinions here about this guy. How much do we really know about him, other than what we saw at the olympics last summer. They say he is the best forward playing overseas, so where would that put him on this team. If his natural spot in the NBA is 4 he is out of luck starting for this team for obvious reasons and i never see pop moving tim to the 5, Tim does not want to play the 5 and i can't see it happening. So i guess he would come off the bench at 3 or 4 when tim takes breather, i mean if he is as talented as some are saying his spot in the rotation could be a problem, just curious what other loyal Spurs fans are thinking.

He's coming. He'll be a huge addition. His value is as a low post scorer off the bench. He's well-coached, hustles his butt off, and has a fine basketball IQ. Absolutely without a doubt he should come over this summer, even with Horry. They fulfill different roles, anyway, although Scola will help Horry limit his minutes throughout the year.

I've followed Scola's play closely in the last 12 months and he is a good fit for us. He can be a starting PF in most of the teams. Having Tim/Horry/Scola/Nazr/Rasho is not a problem since 4 and 5 are almost interchangable and doesn't have any significance these days.

I don't really see why there should a problem with who's playing power forward, center, forward. etc. In this day and age, I feel that the boundries between positions have become blurred. Tim Duncan doesn't always play the PF sometimes he plays the C position. however, he will laways be introduced and considered a PF no matter what.

I could see Horry play SF more in certain match-ups.

Anyway, Scola will help ensure that Duncan and the other starters won't have to play that many minutes per game. They'll be at where they were last year... maybe less.

You also bring him over this year... in order to reach his NBA potential - which will be fairly good - faster.

You can never have too much front court depth. Especially when you have the 5 man rotation the spurs could have.

i think scola will be huge. i see him as horry's regular season rest... and a change of pace player. horry can guard long 4s and draw people out to the 3pt line to guard him. scola will probably add more energy and rebounding inside... and he's the future too. (when horry is gone)

I want Scola on the Spurs.

But if he costs too much to get out of his deal, I wouldn't hesitate to trade him for a solid player and a pick.

When do you expect we'll start hearing more concrete news about Scola coming to the Spurs with possible money estemates?

Agreed. But before trading him, I'd explore letting him stay over seas one more year and picking up Oberto for less. That way if the Rasho/Nazr choice is ever made and the other player is traded, the Spurs would still have an affordable backup bigman that can play in a motion offense effectively. (Perhaps even more effectively than Rasho or Nazr from a passing perspective.)

bring scola over and we are a lock for the championship.
we can give horry a rest until the playoffs and then let him be fresh and really shine.
Duncan can take less minutes in the regs and the team won't fall apart.

Bringing Oberto over would really be a boost to Tims confidence. He would never again have to worry about being the worst free throw shooter on the team. Oberto makes Tim look like Chauncey Billups at the line by comparison.

I think if it comes down to using the full MLE on either Scola or SAR you have to take Shareef. SAR is the proven commodity and that allows you to bring over Scola for nothing next year.

If that happens, expect Scola to request a trade. He wants to come over this year, first of all. Then, of course, when he did come here, he'd be stuck third deep behind SAR, who can't crack the starting line-up himself.

If I'm Scola I get asked to be traded to a team that needed me.

Great, then the Spurs trade Scola when perhaps his stock is a bit overvalued.

I highly doubt Scola will demand a trade. The Spurs have his rights.

He can always threaten to stay in Europe long term.
