Is anyone besides me a little disturbed by the fact that Tim Duncan is the only man on this year's Spurs' roster who was present for all three championship runs?
I wish Pop and company would stop trading the team away and give this group a chance to actually repeat.

Is that really too much to ask?

Relax. Most of our core players are signed for the nextseveral years. And all teams make a few changes in the offseason if it gives them a chance to become better.

Keep in mind that if they hadn't made changes to the roster, Manu wouldn't be here and Tony wouldn't be here. So not all changes are bad

That's very true. My argument is fair from entirely fair. It's just that I have never liked an entire Spurs team like I do this one. I think they are all keepers.

Hopefully no one. Knock on wood.

Personally, I hate all the Rasho trade talk.

You do what you gotta do to win, Angel. Some players got old, some outlived their usefulness. Look at the bright side. The front office was able to get quality players to put around Tim and David (then just Tim) and keep the team at a contending level. Like Timoha said, the core of this team is locked up for awhile....imagine what can get done now that these guys are getting more familiar with the system and each other. Brighter days are on the horizon.

If we had Jaren Jackson, we would've won 6 championships already.

Well, Manu was drafted in 1999...no real replacement there. Tony pretty much was the replacement for AJ... but who says the Spurs pass on him otherwise?

Okay. Leave me Timmy, Rasho, Beno, Gino, Bruce, Robert, Brent Barry, and Devin Brown. Then trade the rest, if you must. = )

This is the most clueless post I've read in a long time.

News flash -- THE MAJORITY OF THE 1999 TEAM IS NOW A BUNCH OF RETIRED GUYS.

Update: Oh, I see, this is really a "please please pretty please don't trade Rasho" thread, not a "why didn't they keep the core of that '99 team together as they aged into their forties" thread.

I mentioned 1999 to establish that the Spurs franchise has a habit of not keeping people. Who knows how many 1999 people that are still in the league were with us for both championships?

Well there were 4 years between 1999 and 2003 and the 1999 team was already old - that's the reason there weren't a lot of holdovers.

The core of the 2005-06 Spurs will be very similar to the 2004-05 Spurs because they are relatively young.

    1999 ROSTER

    Tim Duncan -- still around
David Robinson -- stayed a Spur until retirement
Sean Elliott -- stayed a Spur until retirement
Avery Johnson -- stayed a Spur until retirement
Mario Elie -- played another year, was washed up, went to Phx for a year, retired
Antonio Daniels -- stayed a Spur three more years until he requested a trade so he could play shooting guard somewhere
Jaren Jackson -- got a big fat contract and retired in place -- as a Spur
    Jerome Kersey -- immediately retired
Will Perdue -- disliked SA and went back to Chicago
Malik Rose -- played five and a half more years in SA
Steve Kerr -- played three of his last four years as a Spur

Yeah, 1999 really bolsters your case. To answer your question, of the five players from the '99 team who were still in the league in '03, four won another championship with the Spurs. The only one to go was AD, and that was at his own request because he didn't want to play PG.

Please change the thread le to "Just please don't trade rasho I love him I love him I love him"

We must have scrapped a lot of guys after the 2003 championship for Timmy to be the only surviver. I know David Robinson and Danny Ferry retired. Where did the rest go?

Wouldn't have got Nazr this year if not for making trades to improve your team. The opportunities come up every so often and you have to take advantage of them if you can. The great franchises do this.

Yes they do. The Malik trade disappointed a lot of people, but got us the championship.

We're due as Spurs fans to have a core group of guys compete for the championship year in & year out for a while. I think this was the point of the thread.

Nazr was huge for us but I can't take any credit. I wanted to keep Malik.

I feel your pain Angel....but as with the Malik trade, it was for the betterment of the team, so if you want to continue to win championships, you have to accept the fact that this is a business, and every good business has to make decisions that are sometimes not pleasing to everyone in order to prosper.

Rasho will be fine, he makes millions of dollars, he has a hottie wanting to jump his bones...he will be fine.

What are you talking about? Bowen, Tony and Manu were all on the 2003 squad.
