    There's water in Medina Lake?

Seriously, one of the last droughts, my uncle walked across the lake since the water level was so low.

Yeah, the lake should be at capacity still. We're not really in a drought yet.

Actually Medina is supposed to have excellent bass fishing...one of the best "cold water" lakes around...

They have spent a ton of money up there fixing the dam and repairing all the leaky irrigation canals....it will never be constant level but it doesn't lose near as much water as it used to do and the level is a lot more stable.

    Thank you!!!!

    FISHING TIPS AND TACTICS
For largemouth bass, try fishing deep drop-offs near points in the warmer months using jigs or shad imitating lures. Smallmouth bass can be found around rocky outcrops using crawfish-colored crankbaits and jigs. Hybrid striped bass have been concentrating around open water points and humps and in deep water near the dam. Troll spoons or rattle traps in deep water with down-riggers or use chicken liver for bait. White bass can be caught using small spoons or shad imitating jigs off open water points. Look for schools breaking the surface and throw topwater lures past the school and drag your lure through with a fast retrieve. For catfish, use chicken liver, blood bait, or shad in deep coves that have feeder creeks (even if the creeks are not currently flowing).

from what I hear you can forget about the smallmouth bass...there aren't many. Concentrate on the catfish and Largemouths...

allegedly bacteria levels. It's a "hot water" lake because of the power plant. Mainly I just think CPS doesn't want to screw with people camping/swimming. I have taken my kayaks out there a few times.

Camping is allowed at Calaveras as is jetskiing. CPS doesn't run the lake, SARA does. And I really have no idea why anyone would want to swim in that nasty ass water.

I miss the days when my dad worked at Calaveras and we were allowed to fish on the plant side of the intake. Nice cats and reds feed up there where it's warm...

If you have a boat and want to go fishing locally, Braunig and Calaveras are the best lakes to go to. Calaveras is the bigger of the two lakes and we once caught an 80 pound gar there, but I prefer Braunig. It's kinda small, but not as crowded and the fishing is good. Stripers, redfish and catfish are the most plentiful. Use chicken liver with heavy sinkers or go trollin with deep diving lures for best results.
