Employers are required to check new hires through the governments everify system to make sure they are legal citizens.

When you go to sign up, this is the agreement you have to sign:

WARNING - You are about to access a Department of Homeland Security (DHS) computer system. This DHS computer system and the data therein are property of the U.S. Government and provided for official U.S. Government information and use. Access to this system is restricted to authorized users only. Unauthorized access, use, or modification of this computer system or of the data contained herein, or in transit to/from this system, may cons ute a violation of section 1030 of le 18 of the U.S. Code and other federal or state criminal laws. Anyone who accesses a Federal computer system without authorization or exceeds his or her access authority, or obtains, alters, damages, destroys, or discloses information, or prevents authorized use of information on the computer system, may be subject to administrative penalties, fines or imprisonment.

This DHS computer system and any related equipment is subject to monitoring for administrative oversight, law enforcement, criminal investigative purposes, inquiries into alleged wrongdoing or misuse, and to ensure proper performance of applicable security features and procedures. As part of this monitoring, DHS may acquire, access, retain, intercept, capture, retrieve, record, read, inspect, analyze, audit, copy and disclose any information processed, transmitted, received, communicated, and stored within the computer system. If monitoring reveals possible misuse or criminal activity, notice of such may be provided to appropriate supervisory personnel and law enforcement officials. DHS may conduct these activities in any manner without further notice.

Accordingly, there can be no expectation of privacy in the course of your use of this computer system. The use of a password or any other security measure does not establish an expectation of privacy. There is no expectation of privacy in any media, peripherals or other devices placed in or connected to the computer system.

By clicking “I agree” below or by using this system, you consent to the terms set forth in this notice.
That reads like I am giving DHS free access to absolutely everything in my computer system. Is that how you guys read it?

No. It's describing the access and security qualifiers for the DHS computer system. They can and will monitor your access to their systems, but that's where the monitoring ends.

That would suck to register an employee and then get busted for watching Traci Lords on Pornhub when you didn't know if she was underage at the time.

I like how they say "by clicking I agree" as if you actually have the choice to not agree and not sign up.

Just tie in an old computer you don't use for anything else.

No, I have no idea how homeland security interprets "connected to".

Why would that matter in the context of a Web app?

Of course they can only spy on the contents of your computer while you are connected to them...

Think they are capable of remote viewing?

Wow. You must be bored if you want to argue the semantics of "web app" vs. the HS interpretation of "connected to". I have no intention of playing.

Irrelevant. They can do this whether or not you connect or consent.

But to address CC's question again, No. They are not saying what you think they are saying.

It's not semantics. It's simply that a web app will do what you allow it to do.

I can see why they would put something like that: if you upload the wrong file and it contains tracy lords underage pictures, you can't claim later on that was in error and supposed to be private.

Exactly. They don't need you to connect to their system to do that.

OK, connected to the internet for any spying purposes. But their wording indicated to me they meant "to them" allows such spying by agreement.

That's OK, next time there is a Republican president, you'll suddenly change your mind about what it says.

IMHO Modern Republicans and Democrats both seem to have a shocking disregard for the 4th Amendment.
