White men have much to discuss about mass shootings

Imagine if African American men and boys were committing mass shootings month after month, year after year. Articles and interviews would flood the media, and we’d have political debates demanding that African Americans be “held accountable.” Then, if an atrocity such as the Newtown, Conn., shootings took place and African American male leaders held a news conference to offer solutions, their credibility would be questionable. The public would tell these leaders that they need to focus on problems in their own culture and communities.

But when the criminals and leaders are white men, race and gender become the elephant in the room.

My major concern is that other organizations like the Aryans or splinter groups will see people getting away with murdering prosecutors in Kaufman and follow suit. The original article talked about 34 Aryan Brotherhood members who were federally indicted in Houston recently; who says they don't throw caution to the wind and go after a few AUSA's? Scary stuff.

Interesting research and data from TXDPS.

    http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/directo...Assessment.pdf

    Texas Gang Threat Assessment 2012

The key analytic judgments of this assessment are:
Gangs continue to represent a significant public safety threat to the State of Texas, and
are responsible for a disproportionate amount of crime in our communities. Of
incarcerated members of Tier 1 and Tier 2 gangs, more than half are serving a sentence
for a violent crime, including robbery (25 percent), homicide (14 percent), and
    assault/terroristic threat (12 percent).

The Tier 1 gangs in Texas are Tango Blast (estimated at 10,000 members), Texas
Syndicate (4,500 members), Barrio Azteca (3,500 members), and Texas Mexican Mafia
(6,000 members). These organizations pose the greatest gang threat to Texas due to their
relationships with Mexican cartels, large membership numbers, high levels of
transnational criminal activity, and organizational effectiveness.
Mexican cartels continue to use gangs in Texas as they smuggle drugs, people, weapons,
and cash across the border. Members of Tier 1 gangs have been recruited by the cartels to
carry out acts of violence in both Texas and Mexico. The relationships between gangs
and cartels have evolved over the past year, due in part to volatility and changes in cartel
    structures and relationships in Mexico.

Gang activity in Texas is growing, with the current number of gang members likely
exceeding 100,000. More than 2,500 gangs have been identified throughout the state,
ranging from small gangs with few members and limited geographic reach to large gangs
composed of thousands of members operating in all regions of Texas.

Federal prosecutor over Aryan Brotherhood racketeering case in Houston withdraws due to security concerns

Jay Hileman, an assistant U.S. attorney in Houston, has withdrawn from a large Aryan Brotherhood of Texas racketeering case due to security concerns.

Richard O. Ely II, a Houston defense attorney who is representing one of the 34 defendants, said Hileman sent him an email on Tuesday, informing him that he was off the case.

Ely said another Justice Department prosecutor from Washington D.C. will be assigned to the case to replace Hileman.

That person will join David Karpel, an attorney with DOJ’s gang unit, who is already assigned to the case. Ely said the case will continue to be prosecuted in Houston.

Aryan Brotherhood of Texas Among Groups Eyed in Prosecutors' Murders

In November, 34 suspects associated with the Aryan Brotherhood of Texas were indicted on federal racketeering, murder and drug conspiracy charges. Ten members potentially faced the death penalty as prosecutors accused them of ruthless violence, including ordering hits on rival gang members.

    ...

Authorities are also working to determine if the Texas killings are related to the March shooting death of Colorado prisons chief Tom Clements, gunned down at home. The chief suspect in the murder is ex-con Evan Ebel, an alleged member Colorado white supremacist prison gang known as 211. Ebel had a swastika tattoo on his stomach, lightning bolt tattoos on his hands and wrists, along with the phrase "White Pride" on his arms, according to prison records released today.

Ebel was killed in a gun battle with Texas cops 100 miles from Kaufman County just days after Clements' murder.

    New person of interest?

WASHINGTON -- Officials investigating the deaths of two prosecutors in Kaufman County, Texas, have turned their attention to a former local official there who lost his job in a corruption probe and had allegedly made several threats against the two victims, according to a federal law enforcement official who has been briefed on the case.

The local official was arrested for alleged possession of stolen property after he was caught on surveillance cameras, the source said.

He apparently sought to work a plea deal but did not prevail, and since losing his job has issued a number of threats, including retaliation against the two prosecutors who were killed in Kaufman County. They were the ones who prosecuted him
