naw, he went back to the starting role. they feel it will be easier on his arm to do so and better help the team in the post season.
Just caught an inning of a braves/cubs game
I thought Smoltz was a closer?

why would that help his arm if he pitches like 10x more than if he were a closer..likewise for the postseason
puts a lot of straing pitching 3 straight days then being off a few, then pitching 7 of 10 days. starting role is very structured.
I guess you don't pay much attention to baseball.![]()

Smoltz became a starter again this season. He has been the closer for the Braves since his first full season in that role in 2002. He didn't get the decision last night. He is 9-5 2.81. Thanks to Kolb, Smoltz could have had a couple of more wins there. He's going to his 7th All-Star Game. I would like to see him as the pitching coach after Leo retires.
