Bottom line is Dantoni didn't know when enough was enough...of course Kobe's gonna wanna stay in...it was his job to ensure that Kobe got at least...at least 5 min of rest...it's ridiculous. and even in his last game he kept getting hurt prior to the season ending achilles...and Dantoni never took him out to rest not once even when he was obviously grimacing...it's a complete failure of coaching in my view. Dantoni knows he ed him by bowing to Kobe's pressure to play non-stop because of his ego and Mid would have us believe it's the black coaches with no sense

This is why Kobe could never play for Pop. He would want to sit Kobe in game 5 of the regular season to rest, Kobe would say no, then Pop would have to show him he's in charge and waive him that day.

I'm grateful that D'Antoni broke it open and gave Kobe his head. I'm glad he plays a short bench. He tried all those guys. They all failed. It's not kindergarten. It's a job. You get your chance. If you can't do it, go sit down and we'll try the next guy. In this case the next guy was as ty as the first guy.

disagree....it's a basic war strategy...as a commander you can let soldiers fight all night with no rest.but they'll be weary in the morning...and prone to making crucial mistakes that could cost lives...that's why in ancient Rome the Praetorian guard worked shifts no matter how deft their fighting skills.
All I asked for was 5 min of rest time...I don't care how ty your team...is 1 minute rest each quarter too much to ask? really 1 ing min of rest?

I think you misunderstood ... not saying ... I blame D'antoni for the achilles injury you are right Cully, crap happens.
But to not hold that coach accountable for failing to develop at least 2 minutes as quarter of playing time from either Morris or Ebanks makes little sense even if you say dont shoot just pass we are talking about 2 minutes!!! if they cant do that they need to be in the D-league or Europe tbh ...
The other thing Cully, is it's his M.O. he loves to run short rotation and I understood when the season started and we had ALL this talent "on paper" but as the bodies started dropping he had to find a way for 2 minutes a quarter if he used those only to rest Kobe he is still playing 40 minutes down the stretch ...but those 8 minutes would be impactful maybe he still gets hurt ...but it's still an indictment that he is so slow to adjust. Jamison gets no minutes and only injury allowed Clark to shine ...he also was not using hill enough here or in NY ... none of those guys are stars but can play a role ...one of the thing PJ was a master at ... I hated the randomness of his sub patterns but he found roles for every vet he just hated to play rooks.

He's the coach, not the GM. He gave those guys a chance early on. They failed chronologically. Obviously the front office did not want to change them out. I wouldn't a played them either. We didn't have "2 minutes" anymore. We still don't. I looked at the box score and D'Antoni piddled a smidge last nite with those losers. So he's affected now and giving in. And he was this||close to making a statement.
