DPOY hasn't had literally any merit for years now. I'm almost glad TD didn't win it at this point.
The Memphis Grizzlies are one of the best defensive teams in basketball. And the man in the middle of it, literally, is Marc Gasol.
According to Chris Vernon, Gasol will be named the 2012-13 Defensive Player of the Year.
Gasol, in terms of traditional stats, doesn't necessarily impress. He averaged just 1.7 blocks, 1.3 a game behind league leader Serge Ibaka. Gasol pulled in 7.8 rebounds a game, almost five a game fewer than Dwight Howard, the league leader.
But Gasol's impact can be found simply in this: With him on the floor, the Grizzlies enjoyed an incredible 95.4 defensive rating. With Gasol on the floor, the Grizzlies allowed 99.3 points per 100 possessions. With him off, 105.9. His impact defensively for Memphis is pretty obvious.
Gasol anchored the league's second-best overall defense and while he wasn't swatting shots or dominating the defensive glass, his high intelligence in defending the pick-and-roll and understanding space makes him a very excellent choice.

Eh, Duncan was robbed. Moving on.

Good tbh. See what happened to the Spurs after Pop won COY last spring?
Fat Gasol has Conley/T.Allen and a top 5 rebounder on his team, Gasol winning the DPOY is a joke, i am not sure if he is the best defender on his own team.
They came a James Harden three from making the Finals?
Have you seen "fat gasol" defend a pick and roll tbh. He's pretty damn good. and the defensive rating differential with gasol on/off the court is about -7.4, way more extreme than Duncan. a case can be made for Gasol
They were down 12+ in the fourth quarter at home in game 5. That shouldn't have happened to a Pop team. It's a backdoor sweep no matter how you look at it. The Clips and Jazz were like the Hawks and Pistons to the Cavs team in 09.
Yeah, his PnR D vs Clips Saturday. Noah is much better than him everywhere.
Interested to see if it was Kunta Kinte or Bible Kemp getting second place.
A dust collector. A pretty. A door stop.
1. Make the playoffs.
2. Win the last game you play.
There is nothing else.
You should be happy; Kobe won the last game he played and them s made the playoffs.
I told you none of the Spurs were going to win anything. When are you guys going to start heeding my advice.
box score junkie
watches sportscenter, not the games
clippers pick and roll bigs coulnd't do
chris paul, eric bledsoe, chauncey billups, matt barnes, and caron butler are marc gasol's responsiblity aka the clippers 5 most productive players in the game
Jesus Christ. You mother ers can get into this . For hours. Peanut for a brain assholes.
And you're here through it all, hoping Double Up doesn't come clean.

i wonder if you can catch cubby in an endless loop if you keep telling him that youre a trend setter and he replies the same way
So in the PnR the bigs always guard bigs, u are the one who didn't watched the game
Gasol 8 rebounds/game in 35 minutes. Can't lead his own team
Best perimeter D in the NBA and somehow 37 yr old TD has better DRtg
Not even the best defender on his own team
Arguing that Gasol deserved it more than TD/Noah/Hibbert/Paul George
2 rebs in a playoff game
never argued he deserved it more than Timmy. just said a case could be made, tbh. just saying its not some crazy outrage that Marc won. if you actually watched the clippers/grizz game, which I'm assuming you didn't, you'd have seen that the Clippers guards simply outclassed the Grizzlies guards, even the vaunted defensive duo of Conley and Allen. in the same thread upstairs I even said i'd have gone with Tim over Gasol. but anybody that has watched a grizzlies game would know Marc's defense is awesome, and he shines on the pick and roll. he plays it similar to how Timmy does, but with more mobility.
I'll repeat a point I made earlier, since it seemed to fly over your head. The grizzlies defensive rating difference with marc gasol on/off the court is -7.4 which is a huge number. to put it into context, the spurs difference with Timmy on/off the floor is about -4.5
