Dwight Howard can't hold it all together for Lakers

Dwight Howard, who could soon sign a $118-million contract to become the Lakers' next Shaquille O'Neal, is not playing like Shaquille O'Neal. There have been times in the last two games, in fact, when he looks more like Jermaine O'Neal.

Howard, however, could soon be paid to ensure there are no excuses. He is supposed to be the excuse eliminator, the momentum creator, the giant shoulders upon which his teammates can survive nights like this.

Instead, with the Spurs surrounding and poking and prodding him, he crumbled into a giant purple ball upon which his teammates gratefully collapsed. He had five turnovers, five fouls, shot only four free throws and grabbed only two rebounds in a first half when the Lakers essentially lost it.

Keep in mind he caused countless double teams ( sometimes unneccesarily) that constantly opened up the three ball for players who would be otherwise useless so I wouldn't go to far with that. Credit to the Spurs adjustments and hustle to secure the victory.

I'd love to see dirty punk D12 suspended for elbowing Matty in the head. I thought there were "no exceptions" to that necka and above rule?

I think people are forgetting that Jermaine Oneal was the Man for the pacers for 3 to 5 years putting up very good numbers and doing fairly well in the play-offs
(though the east was admittedly weak at the time). He then had a period of being constantly hurt, and in Toronto making people forget about him during what should have been the Peak of his career. While he has admittedly been on the decline for a few years now he did do a decent job helping Pheonix beat our spurs this season in over time with 20+ points.. He's likely not a hall of fame player but he was a very good multi-year all-star who could lead a contending team.

I'm not going to take anything away from Stephen Jackson, and Ron Artest, but that team was definitely Oneal's and it was those two and the ghost of Reggie Miller, along side O'Neal.

"We fought to get into the playoffs, we fought this far, we're going to keep fighting."

It's nice talk. He has two more games to walk it.
Even the Laker media have sweep on their minds.

Even with no JC reffing yesterday, the refs absolutely refused to give Dwight #6. Timmy's bucket on Dwight in the 4th should have been #6. There were other times he got away with elbows.

I don't like the assclown either, but when he gets double and triple teamed the Lakers have no outside threat without Kobe. There's nobody to step up because Kobe always has to have his shots, and no one knows how to play any other way. I blame Kobe.

There, I managed to make it Kobe's fault. I knew I could.

haha nice... I'd say Matt is definitely under his skin, and if he wasn't before the questions of "is he?", he is now

Howard sounded dead inside letting one of the biggest scrubs and chokers in the NBA show him up two games in a row. I love it.

Looks spanked and defeated. J O'Neal was pretty awesome in his day and yeah those days are over. He was a fantasy bball stud.
