    Non issue.

He can't score 13 points in 30 seconds at will.

While chances of either playing was slim, I'd rather go with TMac, he has a little more quickness at the SF spot than Nocioni does.

it's actually commendable. He probably knew and recognized he was a potato couch that has no business in basketball anymore

I too prefer T-Mac over Nocioni if only for the novelty of seeing McGrady in a Spurs jersey tbh.

Nocioni's only good year was 2007, after that he fell down. I'm sure Ginobili would have loved to have him on the team though.

That's what Nick van Exel should've done.

Hmmmm ... yeah, I would have preferred Nocioni. He'd have some plug-and-play value since he has built-in cohesion with Ginobili. He's also more capable of playing power forward in a pinch.

Nocioni probably wouldn't have played either but his learning curve would have been shorter and he provides better insurance as a 3/4 (rather than a 1/2/3 like McGrady). Plus, at the very least you know he's a compe or who won't back down -- which is needed without Jack around.

Oh well, likely won't matter, but it was a good idea by the Spurs to look at Nocioni as the emergency fill-in.

The good thing about T-Mac is he has such a high theoretical ceiling that it's not unfathomable he could step into a starting role if tragedy strikes. But with him, the chances are extremely high that T-Mac either won't play or, if he does play, he won't have the needed chemistry to help.

Not that it matters, but Nocioni looked done three years ago and he never was that great to begin with.

Why would he have turned it down? Odd. He's actually probably a better "system fit" being that he's used to playing in a complementary role, is a good outside shooter, and is an above average defender. Solid rebounder, too. Especially as a reserve SF and occasional stretch 4, he's a better fit than Tmac. However, Tmac has the outside shot of going on scoring binges, something Nocioni can't hope to duplicate.

I'd love see him as a Spur and yes, It would have been a better option. The one thing Im not sure about Noc is his declining athleticism at the perimeter. While he'd guarded anyone fearlessly, he'd problably end up fouling a lot.

But..who knows, he's a team player and fits well in a movement system, much like Europe - Argentina. With the chance to play in a post season, 2 or 3 tough plays and he might have turned into an instant fan favourite. He's very likeable when he's on your side.

nocioni is playing with the team where he became a star, its not at all like tmac's situation where he was cashing in in a terrible team in a terrible league. Right now, nocioni is playing in a much higher level of compe ion than the chinese league, so no question he could help more than tmac. But it would have been selfish and an insult to the fans of his team to leave for a "rental" championship run where he, like tmac, probably wouldnt even play.

probably turned it down coz he wants to play more minutes than pop is willing to give him
perhaps there's some 'big fish little pond' elements as well
maybe he just doesn't like the spurs or doesn't want to live in san antonio.
the possibilities are endless and irrelevant. he said no, we took another girl home instead

Would have liked him as a 4 option. At the very least get Blair's minutes.

I think he still looks like a useful player. Especially for a team like the Spurs.

Noc probably have a contract worth $1-2M per year in Baskonia, not sure how much money would the Spurs offer.

Why would he be considered an option if he refused?

He was considered an option, got an offer and he rejected it. Not too hard to understand, tbh.

So he wasn't an option at all.

    Cool.
