Saw a brief story on ESPN that caught my eye. Did some browsing and found a few stories. Apparently Pop will retire when Timmy dos? He's said it in previous interviews. I hope he doesn't, but Pop could care less what anyone thinks. If he is ready to move on, I have no doubt he will leave without a glance back.
The real question is if he stays because of friendship or just appreciation for the man himself.

He has said this for years on end! I don't blame him because when Tim is gone the team is basically the 96-97 Spurs with the first pick in the draftWithout Tim this team is toast, he has held it together for so long (Tony will be older too and more wear on his body so he won't carry the team to the playoffs).
I was thinking about this recently. Although it seems likely he'll walk with Tim, I could see him hanging around for Kawhi more than anything else. I think he has become a father figure, of sorts, to that kid too. You know he holds Kawhi in high regard.
I know I will be very sad this day. , I could even cry a bit.

Teams are willing to throw this guy 12 million a year (IMO). He'll be coaching til he's 80, tbh.
I'll admit it, I'm going to cry like a the day Tim retires. I did when Robinson did, but that was easier because it was during a championship celebration.
Oh and Pop will never leave the Spurs organization. He's a Jerry Sloan type of loyalist.

I'd love to see Pop doing commentary. I imagine him interviewing other coaches and making them uncomfortable.

no on several levels. he's been with the spurs for too long to leave for a team like LA. the spurs will offer him any gig he wants. if he retires for 2 years and wants to come back, they'll fire the in bent coach so quickly he wouldn't know what hit him. if pop wants to just be a front office guy, they'll happily find room for him.

He'll get the offers, as well Duncan. But I think they'll both want to rest, at least for a couple of years.
They'd both be great at it, though. I'd try to catch every game they did, especially if they formed a Van Gundy/Mark Jackson--type duo.
I could see him retire from being coach and continue to be Head of basketball operations. He does hold multiple positions.....
Pop as a sideline interviewer would occasionally be hilarious, So is there anything you as a coach can do about your players playing like little girls?
