Moving to Lufkin - Get car in MD or Houston?

Hey

Moving to Lufkin for a new job this summer. I have a moving stipend that will cover the cost of shipping a car down to Texas from Maryland.

Interested in the volvo s60. Local dealership has the volvo s60 premier with climate package for $30,500.

Best I can see is the Houston dealerships doing close to $33,500 for the same exact car. Its a $3k difference in price.

Should I look to get it here and ship it down?


2nd question:

Should I lease the car? (money factor is 0.00001 and Residual is 66%, 15000 miles over 24 months.)

Or Buy it with a low down payment and look for gap insurance? like $2k down at most.

Trying to pay down my wife's old cc debt finally.

First, sorry about the move to Lufkin. I have a bunch of inbred East Texas relatives that live near there in Crockett and they ing creep me out.

As for the lease/buy question I personally think it rarely makes sense for an individual to lease unless you are one of those guys that just HAS to have a brand new car every couple of years. I love those guys. I never buy new cars. I always buy lightly used vehicles and let the other guy take that "driven off the showroom" depreciation hit.

I'd just buy it here, after shipping and stress of moving it, it'll just be worth purchasing here. I'm not sure how the registration process works, but I think you'd have to re-register it here again in Texas if you bought it in MD.

Hey, I'd rather be moving back to SA or Austin, but I'm just elated to back in Texas after spending the past 15 years in various parts of the midwest and northeast. And yes, pays very well

I think it would be easier if I can get a good deal in Texas. Even the costco volvo program doesn't get as close as this dealership is now to discounting the cars. This is a good 6-7k below MSRP and about 3k below the best price I've been given thus far in Texas.

Plus, I am fortunate enough to have the ability to ship the car long distance for free (reimbursed).

So with free transportation (but its a big hassle) and potential cost savings (especially if I purchase it), its hard to turn the opportunity down.

I would be registering the car in Texas when I buy it. I did the same when I bought my current car in NJ and registered it in MD.

I'm close to 75% that I'd like to do it here, but hesitant to get into the hassle of shipping the car down.
