being on the court when the bull brothers make their bull 1000 shots will hurt your +/-
Well put. Lol
Yes, it is a bunch of crap sometimes! A meaningless stat. I remember someone saying Bonner best +/- or something of that sort, then I knew it was a bunch of crap.
Over the aggregate, it does mean something. Bonner didn't lead in plus-minus for all those years for nothing. He helps the offense tremendously, and most teams don't abuse Bonner the way people like to think they do. However, the stat doesn't do a good job to showing individual value as much as it shows how well the team plays when the player is on the floor. In some cases, those two things are the same. But a lot of times there are some big differences there.
Green's stats suggest that the Warriors start off hot, but their second unit can't keep up with the that of the Spurs. I think we can all agree that this is usually the case.
Regular +/- is a horrible stat, tbh, especially in a small sample size like a 7-game series..
Bonner's usually in there with Ginobili, Duncan, and sometimes Parker too. Hard not to have a good +/- in that instance.
His defenders always use the dumb stat to defend him. Well guess what, he's a big fat -12 so far in this series. Just shows how bad the king of plus minus has been.
Spittsvilles #s also need to be taken in context.
When paired in Tallballs alongside Timmy Dunks and with Kawahi on the wing, Splitts numbers are good like they should be.
However Lord DipStickovich often leaves him out there without Duncan and with Gingerbread at the *power forward* spot. Real suprise, his numbers get killed.
That's pretty much what I'm saying. His plus-minus came from the fact that he was part of a great bench unit where his good qualities could shine through and his bad ones could be masked. The team played well when he was out there, but not necessarily BECAUSE he was out there.
Bonner's RAPM has always been solid in the regular season IIRC..
It's not a +/- flaw, as even all adjusted +/- stats have Bonner as a high impact player for the Spurs..
That shouldn't be disputed, though..Bonner has always been a great regular season contributor for the Spurs, tbh..his struggles have been in the playoffs, and the same numbers support that notion..
I don't know why you're laughing. I didn't say Bonner was good. I just said the team used to play well with Bonner was on the floor in previous years (in the regular season). I don't see how anyone could disagree with that unless they have selective memory.
Okay I will take that, but somethines when he is out there he can seriously give up two or three easy buckets in a row after a three! I have seen that a few times. He just is not a playoff performer alot of times and we all know that. If your team with you out there though is balling then of course you will have a higher +/-! That is true as well. YOu could be 0-3 and give up two buckets, if your team around you is balling then you can have a +.
