Yes
If the Spurs were to win the le, would Jack get a ring?
Yes
I was reading something about the 2004 Red Sox giving Nomar Garciaparra a ring even though he wasn't on the team when they won. Wasn't sure why... wanted to see if that applied to other sports.
IIRC Malik Rose got a ring in 2005 even though he wasn't with the team anymore at the time of the le (as he was traded for Nazr Mohammad). But that was a slightly different cir stance than Jack's being waived due to behavior detrimental to the team.
My bet, though, is that he would probably get one.
Oh right I do remember hearing that. I wonder if it even means anything to the guy who didn't go through the playoffs. Probably not much.
the real question is, does he deserve one?
so that makes Malik technically a three time champion- 1999, 2003 and 2005
Owners decide who get rings. They pay for it. Most owners give rings all the way down to maintenance staff and interns.
If an owner was stingy enough, they could not give rings at all, or give it to only players and coaches. If they wanna give an extra ring to a dude who was kicked off the team, that's their decision.
As far as Garciaparra, the players voted on whether he should get a ring or not.
Technically yes just for the mere fact that he was with the Spurs in the regular season. But I say no since championships are won in the playoffs.
But I think it is like a tradition in the nba that those with contributions in the regular season are given a ring. We had a third string point guard before- Mike Wilks in 2005 who I don't think saw floor time in the playoffs but was given a ring. Surely, Jackson had more contributions than Wilks had in 2005.
Would Tim, Manu and Pop retire?
it's up to the discretion of the owner...the PA announcer of the Pistons got a ring back in 2004
Yes, this stupid question always comes up in team sports, You score one point, in October or march you get a ring, he contributed like anyone else. The question is will he claim it
he'd have a justifiable claim, imo.
