A man has been killed in a machete attack and his two assailants shot by police in Woolwich, south-east London.

The government is reported to be treating the assault as a suspected terrorist incident and the prime minister said it was "truly shocking".

Footage has emerged showing a man wielding a bloodied meat cleaver and making political statements.

Local MP Nick Raynsford said the dead man was a soldier at Woolwich barracks but this has not been confirmed.

The ITV film shows a black man, dressed in a grey hooded jacket, saying: "We must fight them as they fight us. An eye for an eye, a tooth for a tooth."

He added: "I apologise that women have had to witness this today, but in our land our women have to see the same. You people will never be safe. Remove your government, they don't care about you."

Home Secretary Theresa May has summoned a meeting of the government's emergency response committee Cobra

    Christians in general don't.

At some point though, one does have to ask why is it that islam seems to lend itself to radicalization.

While I tend to view most religions with some distaste, and feel no need to play apologist for Christianity, it would seem that one would have to ask that very pertinant question.

I would feel a lot better if I heard more condemnation of this at the pulpit from the average mullah.

Yeah, I saw that. It is a British thing. I don't understand.

Ok, maybe I do, given the British colonization of India, and the indelible imprint that country made on tiny Britainna.

Afghanistan got invaded to go after AQ, but OBL said he/AQ attacked WTC because US military boots were defiling the sacred sands of his Saudi Arabia, which was the USA and oil.

iow, WTC and all the terror have blowback for USA invading Muslim countries for oil. GFY

Former British Soldier: London Attackers Motivated By US and UK's Imperial Foreign Policy

A former British soldier who served in Afghanistan wrote an opinion piece for The Guardian arguing that “of course British foreign policy had a role” in the knife attack in London yesterday.

Joe Glenton, who spent five months in prison for refusing to serve a second tour in Afghanistan, addressed arguments that the attack was inspired by the Muslim faith, rather than blowback from US and UK foreign policy. According to one witness, who is currently being hailed as a hero for intervening, one of the alleged attackers said he was “…fed up with people killing Muslims in Afghanistan …"

    Glenton writes:

It should by now be self-evident that by attacking Muslims overseas, you will occasionally spawn twisted and, as we saw yesterday, even murderous hatred at home. We need to recognise that, given the continued role our government has chosen to play in the US imperial project in the Middle East, we are lucky that these attacks are so few and far between.

I really wish that we would go imperialist. They use that as the excuse anyway so why not give it to them and actually benefit ourselves. Open up the carpetbagging to more than just the multinationals and Cheney.

Anyway, good news! The authorities in Britain are making more arrests in this matter:

In Britain, Police Arrest Twitter And Facebook Users If They Make Anti-Muslim Statements

British police are arresting people in the middle of the night if they have made racist or anti-Muslim comments on Twitter following the murder of a soldier by two Muslims in Woolwich, London.

Three men have so far been taken into custody for using Twitter and Facebook to criticize Muslims.

In the Woolwich attack, Lee Rigby, a drummer in the Royal Regiment of Fusliers, was run down in a car and then hacked and stabbed to death by two men with knives and a cleaver. They told a man video recording the scene that it was vengeance for the killings of Muslims by the British Army.

One man has been charged with "malicious communications" on Facebook, the Daily Mail reports.

Two others have been arrested under the Public Order Act on su ion of inciting racial or religious hatred. The police are now arresting people based on mere speech in social media, a detective said in a statement to the press:

'The men were arrested under the Public Order Act on su ion of inciting racial or religious hatred. Our inquiries into these comments continue.

'These comments were directed against a section of our community. Comments such as these are completely unacceptable and only cause more harm to our community in Bristol.

'People should stop and think about what they say on social media before making statements as the consequences could be serious.'

The arrests come at the behest of British Muslims, who fear a backlash against them following the death of Rigby, The New York Times says:

The police and Muslim groups have said that there have been anti-Muslim episodes in many parts of the country, the most common involving derogatory messages on social media sites like Twitter and Facebook.

A number of arrests have been made, with criminal charges being leveled in some cases under laws against inciting racial or religious hatred, and Muslim community leaders have reported rising concern among the estimated 2.5 million Muslims in Britain.

Two men were detained in the middle of the night after they expressed anger at Muslims on Twitter. The Independent quotes police as saying:

"We began inquiries into the comments and at around 3.20am two men, aged 23 and 22, were detained at two addresses in Bristol.

"The men were arrested under the Public Order Act on su ion of inciting racial or religious hatred. Our inquiries into these comments continue."
Another Europe vs. Islam grudge match is coming down the line. The British tagline can be "This time in your backyard!" Diversity is our strentgh comrades! Down with hate speech!
