If Duncan does get a ring, he is at absolute worst #6 all time. #4 and 5 would become arguable depending on what you value most.
MJ, Kareem, and Russell all have at least 1 more ring than Duncan (at 5), so it's easy to just bring that up, but everyone else becomes fair game including Magic Johnson and Wilt Chamberlain. Duncan surpasses Shaq who only has 4 (you can argue Duncan above Shaq already though).
If Duncan wins again, he will really cement his legacy. He'd have gone through so many great teams too. . .5 rings in the Shaq/Kobe era, the neo Pistons era, the Mavs era, the Suns era, and the "Decision" era.

Tim is firmly cemented now. He's played out of his mind this season, and he's carried the team in the OTs. He's a big big reason they are in the Finals. If they don't win, he's still secured his position. Winning the ring, if he has a major part in it, would convince deniers that he's there, but he's there.
I have Timmy at #7 right now just below Shaq, and Wilt at 5, Magic at 5, Kareem at 3, Russell at 2 and MJ at 1.
Do you think Timmy would leapfrog Shaq for #6 even without a ring? What about Wilt? With a ring, Duncan is firmly above Shaq imo and probably above Wilt too since Magic is. Argument for Duncan vs Magic opens up too for who's 4 and 5.
