    HUMOR TIME

when this Lakers/Kobe vs Shaq ends?

for how long Shaq keeps on saying trash such as this one?

Shaq returns to L.A., tweaks rookie Bynum

Shaquille O'Neal returned to Los Angeles recently with some colorful things to say — as you might expect.

O'Neal ventured back to his old haunts (where he played for eight seasons) to host a Hollywood auto show, according to a report in the Los Angeles Times. And he promptly gave himself a new nickname: "Dr. Shaq."

Lakers rookie Andrew Bynum, seen here during Summer Pro League play, should already know better than to engage Shaq in a verbal spat. (Juan Ocampo / Getty Images)

The veteran center recently earned a master's degree from the University of Phoenix, and said he plans to earn his doctorate in psychology, criminology or sports psychology.

But has Shaq become an intellectual snob?

When asked about Andrew Bynum, the Lakers' 17-year-old draft pick, O'Neal told The Times, "Tell him Shaq doesn't respond to juvenile delinquents without a college degree. Tell him to get his degree and we can talk. In the meantime, he should call me Dr. Shaq because I'm working on my PhD."

When the Lakers drafted Bynum, the high school big man invited a comparison to O'Neal, with one exception — he makes his free throws, which might be what elicited Shaq's sharp rebuke. And while he is young for the NBA, Bynum does not have a criminal record.

As for basketball matters, O'Neal is entering the final year of a three-year contract extension he signed before the Lakers traded him. He is reportedly closing in on a contract extension with the Heat.

    Is Shaq worried?

    Not really.

"We understand business, and we understand leverage," said O'Neal, scheduled to make $30.6 million next season. "We'd just like to do it in a professional manner."

O'Neal was traded to Miami last July 14 for Lamar Odom, Caron Butler, Brian Grant and Miami's 2006 first-round pick.

Shaq took Orlando to the finals, he gave LA a three-peat. Dude can say whatever he wants to this Andrew kid and KG/O'Neal for all I care.

Isn't Shaq taking his online earned degree where his wife took tests for him a bit too serious. I'm sorry, but when listening to him speak, I cannot fathom that he has that much going on up there, so he shouldn't be talking. I'm not for NBA drafting guys out of high school, but back then, NBA players did play some college ball or finished college. In the past couple of years, draft picks out of high school have been all the rage.

he doesn't respect other people's feelings.
You don't have to say such things just because you won those les. Russell has 13 but doesn't act like one.

    BIG EGO=ShAQ.

And he when ShaQ die it will be the day when I laugh instead of cry. And I will always remember him as comic but a big trash talker than a champion.

That is not cool. I don't like him either but I wouldn't take it that far.

Shaq is all tv. It's just a persona. Have you not seen the guy buy toys for kids?

    He's a big kid.

He's had that same egotisical persona since high school. Watch the WOAI (KMOL) clip they have of him in high school. He has that same y smile and talked about being the soon to be best.

He gives himself all kinds of stupid names, which everyone takes serious.

He's probably a really cool person if you were his pal or met him on the street.

You people take his statements way too serious.

He throws that fish line and people always fall for the bait.

I'll admit he pissed me off when he said all the crap about David. But then when David was in his final year, Shaq recorded a goodbye message which was funny. He said all these nice things about David and then at the end said: "You didn't think I'd say that did you?"

And what is this "he doesn't care about other people's feelings" crap.

    He's not John Rocker.... damn.

okay, sorry. I didn't really mean it.

    let me rephrase it-

when he's gone i won't cry..and i will always remember him more as a trash talker than a champion..

Those two don't have the personaility that Shaq does.

Wilt did. Wilt went on to reveal he slept with 20,000 women. Would Bill or Tim ever do that? No. Does that make Wilt any less a champion or NBA legend? no.

To hate a person you know only by tv interviews is pretty sad.

As much as I dislike Shaq's game (and the games he plays), he is actually a pretty smart dude. His SATs were not that far behind DRob's. I have no doubt that he could successfully navigate through UoP's MBA program. Friends who have done coursework with them didn't have any problems, and I had several people complete degrees while working full-time.

Comments like this is why I hate the guy. I can't stand when stupid, ignorant people try to act like they're smart. Stick with basketball Shaq.

Where's that thread about why do you hate Shaq? Quotes like this is why....

I'm sure those with a PhD would strongly disagree with you.

    I bet.

I actually have a recent Masters and could easily have gone for PHD. But just said that, I don't need it. But professionals I talked to all say anybody can get a Masters or PHD these days.

So Shaq can stick those PHDs up his big fat...

Yep. At the time Shaq was a rookie, there was a story circulating that there were three centers in NBA history who had scored over 1200 on the SATs: Kareem, DRob, and Shaq.

Dr. Shaq? Then he can finally diagnose himself as an egomaniac with severe social dysfunctions and an unhealthy, even all consuming, need for attention.

I think it's funny....Big Bynum shouldn't have said anything about Shaq in the first place. He said Shaq's his idol but also said that he can hit FT's better than the Big Aristotle...dumb move. Plus Shaq still needs to talk smack about the Lakers....look dude you've been traded had great success in Miami, move on....
